Are the reveals about Kavanaugh's drinking an indictment of FBI background checks?

They all kept repeating "He passed 6 background checks...!" - over and over...

But look at the all the - seemingly obvious stuff - the FBI overlooked.

I think the FBI has some explaining to do.

How many more shady people have "passed" these FBI background checks?

Did the FBI ever speak to any of the people coming forward now?

Just who the hell did the FBI talk to when they passed Kavanaugh - SIX TIMES!!!

Did they speak with Mark Judge?

Did they look in his yearbook?

Did they speak to anyone from Yale?

The FBI needs to explain how so much of this got past them.

How did he suddenly pay off his gambling debts. How often does he gamble? Is he a "sore loser"?

whoever is on Trump's staff that is handling the nomination - McGahn? If the binge drinking in HS and college was on the FBI report, but if they don't think it was a problem, they would still move forward with the nomination.

...for various positions he's held prior to this nomination, most if not all were under previous presidents (Bush and Obama, and depending on the dates it's possible the earliest was under Clinton).

It makes me question if they are selective in giving individuals a thorough background check.

First the candidate fills out a form, typically the SF86 which lists everything you've done, everywhere you've lived, and references THE CANDIDATE provides for a recent time period, usually the past 7-10 years. The investigator goes to every place the candidate has worked and interviews their direct supervisor and any references that the candidate lists.

Then the investigator goes to the neighborhoods from the candidates' past 10 years and interviews neighbors that the candidate has listed.

IF any issues arise from the interviews of the people that the candidate directs the investigator to, then and only then will the investigator expand the scope of the investigation to include witnesses and other involved parties.

Financials are checked for illegality and credit is checked, other than that, a thing like gambling debts remain off the radar (unless one of the candidate's references mentions it).

Most high profile candidates are rushed through, many times leaving investigators only time enough to have brief chats with those references that the candidates provide.

A LOT OF STUFF GETS MISSED. It's a terribly flawed system.

Signed, a guy who did these investigations for several years.
