More: sources familiar w key gop senators thinking tell me their intention was NOT to limit the investigation. I’m also told the senators have called the wh over the past 24-48 hours to make that clear. As a result @Acosta reports the WH told FBI it is NOT limited.

Kavanaugh's hearings only ran for 4 days before the 1 day addition to question Ford. I.e., they were fast-tracking (ramming) him through at an unprecedented rate, so getting the extra days for a follow up investigation was at least helpful for someone in the minority of a committee with little power.
