(25,857 posts)There's this weird and completely wrong mythology that McCain is some sort of liberal. He's not. He never has been. Don't forget that he voted against Kagan and Sotomayor. He voted against the Martin Luther King Holiday. He voted against the ACA in the first place, and his last vote about it was simply a giant Fuck You to Trump, not from any actual change of heart.
The list goes on and on. He never was a friend to Democrats, and he'd be gleefully trashing Blasey Ford and voting to confirm Kavanaugh.

(58,785 posts)but he absolutely was a very strong economic conservative. National holidays cost business and governments money. And so does the ACA. Just a little reading about McCain reveals that he was neither a wise nor a highly principled man. He did one great thing when he was very young in refusing the special treatment offered an admiral's son. Other than that, he was a very limited man.
