Last Day to Comment on Right to Demonstrate Near WH and Nat. Mall - Comment Link Included
This is a re-post from Friday, but this important deadline is today.
You can read the proposal here and click the "Comment Now" tab to leave your opinion: [link:http://|http://www.regulations.gov/document?D=NPS-2018-0007-0001] From ACLU: "The Trump administration is proposing to dramatically limit the right to demonstrate near the White House and on the National Mall. The proposed rule changes were made by the National Park Service, which administers the areas. The proposal, which threatens First Amendment rights, would close 80 percent of the White House sidewalk, put new limits on spontaneous demonstrations, and open the door to charging fees for protesting." 1. My comment
Our right to peacably assemble is guaranteed in the First Amendment to the Constitution. Our right to speak truth to power is guaranteed. The temporary occupants of the White House and the temporary occupants of Congress may not like it if we do so loudly, or even like it it if we do so at all, but we have the right. And they -- if they cannot stand the heat they should get out of the kitchen.

4. Do you think they will listen? Or give a damn?
The orange $hithole wants to keep the rabble at bay and who is going to tell him "no"?
![]() I still submitted a comment and this is what I said: The right to peacefully assemble and protest is guaranteed in the First Amendment to the Constitution. Where better to do that than in front of the White House? Or on the National Mall? The occupant of the White House may not like it, but the occupant is there to SERVE the people.
I am not in favor of implementing the proposed changes that restrict protestors to zones that do not include sidewalks around the White House or on the National Mall. I am not in favor of charging fees for protests or putting new limits on spontaneous demonstrations. What I really wanted to say was, if the Park Service needs money to clean up after protests, then make 45 pay for his golf outings from now on. That ought to provide about $100 million/year to give to the Park Service. But if I'd said it, they probably would have either deleted it or not posted my comment. |

6. Here's the problem
They are reacting to the fact funding has been slashed by Republicans. The cost of maintaining these areas, cleaning up behind protests etc, is not small.
I read the entire document. If I read correctly, they are asking for people requesting special events and protest groups of 1000 or more carry more of the costs associated with cleaning up behind them and repairing the damage caused by temporary structures and crowds. Spontaneous demonstrations of 25 or less are not affected. I don't like the rules proposal. At all. But this is why they are asking for it. If you want open lands then we need better funding. |

7. Typical cheap $hit Republican tactic.
Plenty of money to give tax cuts to billionaires and order war toys that the military doesn't want and put children in cages at the border or spend $700/night to their cronies to warehouse kids/families and pay for $100 million plus and counting golf trips for 45, but money to clean up the parks because people are protesting the damn Republicans? No way.
I despise them. I am disgusted by every goddamn person who supports these greedy a$$holes. Fu*k Republicans. ![]() |

8. Please people, clean up after yourselves. Each person picks up debris. Not too hard.
Just like don't throw trash out the car window, or throw crap on the ground. That is respectful of our beautiful national monuments, grounds, and environment.
Besides that, we have the right to peacefully protest. We are not a poor country. We could have a well-functioning country if we tax wealth. I mean, how many lifetimes of wealth do these rich assholes have to hoard. They have millions, billions, but they always want more. |
