Trump and his enablers may not know this yet, but Khashoggi is turning into every despot's nightmare, one of the few things no dictator can intimidate, lie out of, or effectively fight against: A Martyr.

is so painful to see knowing what we've heard about the audio recordings of the Saudi embassy. So painful.

I hope there is some justice for him.

Which I believe we all know wont happen. I mean, Trump did talk to the king and he denied it ever happened. That's like total concrete proof right there.

I believe that a major European power, or the entire EU or UN needs to take and lead the charge on this one, and should have started a week ago. Sanctions should be in place right now.

I have no choice but to stay put.. I am glad to be over here on an Island out here in the middle of nowhere, though.

locked up the Repub nomination that if he won, we were going to get on a plane and go look at moving to Hawaii, preferably Kauai.

In 2005 we had created an escape from Bush to Panama. Went through the whole process of getting a permanent resident visa. Had it stamped in my passport. Then our house burned down in 2007 here in the US and we shifted all the furnishings I had in storage to ship to Panama when our house was completed there to a rental house here. Then Obama was elected and we had a chance to get our money back from Panama, so we did.

In 2015 I didn't like the look of things again and we went to Bonaire and made an offer on a condo. My husband backed away on our flight home. Really pissed me off because we could have funded it by selling our house here and getting a small apartment leaving us flexible.

On the day after the election, I started planning our look see trip to Hawaii. Had it ready to book when I asked my husband if he was willing to really make the move. No point in going if he was going to pull Bonaire again. And we didn't go.

Fast forward to November 2017. I left my husband of 32 years and one of the reasons I did was his refusal to make plans to get out of the US or at least put us on an islsnd in the middle of nowhere when we had the chance.

I'm still thinking about moving abroad. Can't afford Hawaii by myself. Contemplating France, but hesitant to do it alone at my age (67). If we don't at least take the House in this election, I may just screw up my courage to go look at options in France next spring.

Sorry your marriage broke up but it sounds like you both strongly wanted to be in two different places.

I take it France would be less expensive than Hawaii to live? Do you speak French? A lot of things to consider with a huge move out of the USA. I can certainly see why people who have the wherewithal would want to . It's obviously not feasible for everyone.

If I lived on the mainland and could leave I would choose Canada! I love it there and their peeps.

Hope so much that we Win the House and there's no cheating that makes it go GOP when people didn't actually vote for them.

Yes, I speak French. Have two very good friends who live there. One in Lyon just got his French citizenship. The other is a woman who lived with us almost 30 years ago when she was a foreign exchange student. In fact, the friend in Lyon was friends with her in high school when she was living with us.

If I go, I would be looking at Lyon. Less expensive than Paris, but great location. Excellent public transportation. I wouldn't want a car. Good ex Pat community. Affordable.

We have a DU member who just made the move to France. Sold their house in Philly. They bought an apartment in Aix en Provence, where I also have French friends who hosted my husband and me twice in their home over the years when we made trips to France.

a lot of wonderful connections.

Canada wouldn't take me, either then. I didn't know they don't take retirees.. too bad.

We have a bit of French in our motley crew family tree. My great grandmother was née Melissa Lyon. The language seems so challenging to me.. I admire the ability to speak it!

Canada will take you if you show proof of a certain income and that you have your own medical.

At least thats what it was years ago when I checked into it. We don’t make enough in our retirement.
