(43,890 posts)The word "idiot" comes from the Greek ἰ??ώ???, idiōtēs 'a private person, individual', 'a private citizen' (as opposed to an official), 'a common man', 'a person lacking professional skill, layman', later 'unskilled', 'ignorant' from ἴ????, idios 'private', 'one's own'.
...
its most common use was simply a private citizen or amateur as opposed to a government official, professional, or expert. The derogatory sense came centuries later, and was unrelated to the political meaning.

(769 posts)I spent a bunch of time and energy getting yard signs distributed in my County.
My large back porch was full of signs - still is - for 8 good Democrats.
Always feels good to do something for my fellow Dems and maybe even a few others.

(51,591 posts)Spelling/contractions is obviously not taught in that GOP neck of the woods. I must be one of those "elite liberals" who was an overpaid teacher.
When I vote by mail I take my ballot to the polls in person since I like voting. My dog always comes too. We get "I VOTED" stickers. I have sheets of the stickers in several languages from when I took my former first graders to go on a "field trip" to the Multi Purpose Room to watch real voting every year and then we voted for everything throughout the year and they got stickers in the languages that they spoke. They loved voting too. Now I have the stickers at my home and I wear them every time I go out to make my own GOTV statement and I have has a lot of voting conversations with total strangers about it.
