entered the voting booth for the very first time - fully confident she understood the candidates and the issues - and cast her votes.
You all are part of this proud moment because I have shared with her over these years many of our best moments here at DU.
Thank you.

(113,063 posts)I have confidence that these young voters ARE the long term answer.
greatauntoftriplets
(175,742 posts)They don't like what's going on either. And, in their district, the Republican candidate for Congress is a neo-Nazi/Holocaust denier who got 20,000 votes in the primary. The Democratic incumbent is expected to win, but every vote for him is still important.

Hulk
(6,699 posts)Born in 2000, with a "pre-existing condition" that is at threat. He was born with PKU, a disease that can now be detected at birth, and has to live consuming a formula that is expensive and never ending. IF he were to lose that medical coverage, or if he ever became "down and out" and had to survive off one of these minimum wage jobs, he would slowly poison his brain to where he would eventually be "retarded" or unable to care for himself.
THIS is what we are fighting for.....thousands more like my grandson, and millions more who ALSO have pre-existing conditions that are at risk by these insensitive, heartless and selfish politicians that just don't care one bit for the welfare of the fellow citizens.
VOTE! I've got mine filled out and ready to mail, and I'm going to let my wife look at it before she fills her's out and we mail them in together today. NO POSTAGE necessary here in Washington state. Voting made easy, the way it should be. (I should mention, my wife is a nationalized citizen, and her understanding of complex issues in a voters pamphlet are overwhelming at best. She is also easily swayed by something as basic as a "jobs fair" to re-elect the dim witted repuKKKe we have representing us now. I hope my sister, Joe Biden, and I have convinced her that changing Congress to Democrat is essential to the healthy future of this country...but she can vote for whoever she chooses in the end, and doesn't need to show me how she voted; unlike my fox viewing republican sister who votes for herself and her husband, who has advanced Alzheimers.)
blm
(113,063 posts)For that I am grateful.
Fighting for your grandsons coverage, Hulk. Always.

(29,674 posts)Entered in August for the first time to vote in the Missouri primary. She volunteered on the McCaskill campaign the entire summer, starting two days after her high school graduation. While most of her friends were on vacation or at the pool she was canvassing door-to-door. She is now majoring in Public Relations with an emphasis in Political Media and minoring in Marketing with the plan of becoming a campaign manager for progressive women breaking into politics.
Cheers to both of us for raising kids who will make a difference in our country!

(11,916 posts)So far, his friends and other kids voting age that I've spoken with (at church, high school friends, and at the college I work at) seem to be armed with information and are intending on having their say at the voting booth, and all will be voting Dem. Unfortunately, I have a niece, 6 nephews, and a 3 sets of in-laws who will cancel some of those votes out.
