Trump: Cruz Is No Longer 'Lyin' Ted,' He's 'Beautiful Ted'

by Ken Meyer | Oct 22nd, 2018, 3:27 pm

So…times have certainly changed.

Donald Trump spoke to the White House press pool on the South Lawn today as he prepared to leave for Texas tonight. The president is stumping for Ted Cruz (R) in Houston as the senator faces Beto O’Rourke (D) in the Texas midterm elections, so of course, Trump was asked about the…complicated relationship he has with Cruz.

Political observers may recall that during the 2016 election, Trump glued Cruz to the nickname of “Lyin’ Ted,” disparaged his wife’s physical appearance, and suggested that the senator’s father was involved in the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. When asked today why he’s campaigning on behalf of “Lying Ted,” Trump said that his old nickname no longer applies.

“He’s not Lyin Ted anymore. He’s Beautiful Ted.”

So, yeah. Trump continued to insist that he and Cruz have buried the hatchet despite the “very nasty” history between the two. Since Trump decided to revoke his previous insult to Cruz, he was also asked if he regrets spreading his baseless claims about the senator’s father.

The answer: apparently not.

Most worked not just because they were repeated ad nausium, but because they matched what many others - true or fase - were already saying. "Little" Marco, because he does look boyish; lying Ted because ... In some cases, he needed the right wing smear machine's prior work. Here, I don't care that Heidi Cruz spoke of his 1950 movie star looks (love is truly blind in this case), Ted Cruz was NOT blessed with good looks and beautiful is a strange word when the subject is male. Throw in that Cruz has a genuinely handsome opponent, it is hard to think this nickname will resonate.

has a limited vocabulary, and "beautiful" is his favorite nice thing to say,

but calling Ted Cruz "beautiful" is like calling Trump skinny.

"There he is, Mr. America...
There he is, your Lone Star State ideal...
The dream of a millionaire who is more than pretty
Whose casino went bankrupt in Atlantic City
For he may fade into anonymity..."
