The Museum of the Bible in Washington, DC says five of its most valuable artifacts -- all thought to be part of the historic Dead Sea Scrolls -- are fake and will not be displayed anymore.
German-based scholars tested the fragments and found that five "show characteristics inconsistent with ancient origin and therefore will no longer be displayed at the museum."
"Though we had hoped the testing would render different results, this is an opportunity to educate the public on the importance of verifying the authenticity of rare biblical artifacts, the elaborate testing process undertaken and our commitment to transparency," said Jeffrey Kloha, the chief curatorial officer for Museum of the Bible.

(26,219 posts)unless this is a different Bible Museum.
If I recall, the grifter in his case had ties to Al Qaeda or ISIS or some other rogue nefarious group with terror ties.
Priceless.

(50,557 posts)The Greens bought sixteen fragments claimed to be from the Dead Sea Scrolls (which, incidentally, are all owned by the Israeli government) from the same dealer. The German BAM lab (it's an acronym of three German words that mean "Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing, and they are very good at what they do) says five of them are definite forgeries. Considering who tested it - the Germans, who don't seem to have a word for "maybe" in their language - there's a possibility the whole batch is counterfeit.
If I was running that museum, I would put the whole batch on display, sign them as being forgeries, and create a sign explaining how Satan draws people to counterfeit artifacts as a way of deceiving us. But I'm not kidding anyone...if I was running that museum, I would have advised the Green family that if they wanted to show true Christianity in action, turning the half-million-square-foot building they own into either a factory or a distribution center and creating jobs in a place that really needs them would have been better than constructing a monument to the founders' personal vanity.
