3-term incumbent Democrat Bill Nelson leads Republican challenger (and current Florida Governor) Rick Scott by 8 points, and Democrat Andrew Gillum leads Republican Ron DeSantis by 7 points in the race for the open Governor's seat that Scott has vacated, according to SurveyUSA research conducted for Bay News 9 Tampa and News 13 Orlando.
Compared to an identical SurveyUSA poll 6 weeks ago, Nelson is up 10 points, Gillum is up 3 points. Nelson had trailed Scott by 2 points on 09/11/18, now leads 49% to 41% today 10/22/18. Gillum had led DeSantis by 4 points on 09/11/18, now leads DeSantis by 49% to 42% today, 10/22/18. Both contests are fluid; there may yet be a swing back to the Republicans before votes are counted in 14 days.
In the contest for the Attorney General of Florida, Republican Ashley Moody had led by a nominal 1 point on 09/11/18, now trails Democrat Sean Shaw by a nominal 1 point today, 44% Shaw to 43% Moody.
6 weeks ago, Scott led Nelson by 10 points among all men and by 7 points among suburban men. Today, Scott trails Nelson by 3 points among all men (a 13-point swing to the left) and by 5 points among suburban men (a 12-point swing to the left). Among seniors, Scott had led by 13, now leads by 3. Among whites, Scott had led by 14, now leads by 5. Among non-Cuban Hispanics, Nelson had led by 32 points, now leads by 50 points. Among voters with a 4-year college degree, Scott had led by 5 points, now trails by 21 points, a 26-point swing to the Democrat. In Central FL, Scott had led by 12 points, now trails by 3 points, a 15-point swing to the Democrat. In Northeast FL, Scott had led by 18 points, now tied, an 18-point swing to the left.
