Help needed with tactics for combating voter suppression.

My son and I are both lawyers but we need help.

My son has been recruited to be on a quick-reaction group based on rumors of plans for suppression plans for election day. Given the area, my suspicion is that given the area, the goal would be to suppress the Hispanic vote. He have talked about ideas for response but voting rights is neither his area of practice nor mine.

Other than telling people not to leave the polling place without at least casting a provisional ballot, what advice should I give him?

I believe in partisan voter protection. We can appoint poll watchers and have someone in the polling place. Non partisan voter protection have to talk to voters outside the electioneering zone

I suppose it depends on the reason the voter is having an issue voting.

If the voter really does not have the documents needed (picture ID or whatever), then I would think there's not much the voter can do. If, OTOH, he's clearly registered, has his registration card with him, proof of his address, photo ID or whatever else they require...in other words, they screwed up and their list doesn't have him on it, there may be something in that state's rules and procedures dealing with that problem. Like...if he has all the things necessary, so that it's clear the printed list just didn't have the voter on it, then maybe he is supposed to be allowed to vote.

So your son would have to have a copy of the rule or law that says the voter gets to vote, if that is the law.

Other than that, the provisional ballot is all I know of.

In my state, we have a voter portal where we can look up everything regarding each of us. Under my registration, I can print another registration card, print a copy of the ballot that applies to ME, and other things...INCLUDING STATUS OF PROVISIONAL BALLOT. That can be used by the voter and your son & others to track provisional ballots, create a master list, give it to the Democratic Party or other orgs that may care about voter suppression.

We have a portal in Arkansas to verify registration ahead of time.

What makes us nervous is that the rumors at vague at this point. We hear there will be some attempt at suppression but no clear idea on what is being planned.

8. I know. Suppression is in the news in different places.

I live in TrumpLand. So I checked my registration online periodically leading up to the early voting, to make sure it was still there.

We require photo ID, though. So if I had shown up but didn't have photo ID, I would not have been allowed to vote.

Many years ago, after I had recently moved, I was not on the voter rolls at the polling place. I had my registration card, proof of my address. But the roll hadn't been updated recently enough, I guess. This was before the internet. I was allowed to vote. Boy, how times have changed.

I get 3 hours of CLE including half hour of ethics

Most voter protection programs have training for their lawyer volunteers. Where will your son be stationed?
