(3,469 posts)I belong to an RV group based in Texas that handles mail forwarding for Texas resident, fulltime travelers. Lots of excitement about Beto and ZERO for Cruz. This group usually skews R and that's an understatement. I also have never seen this much talk about voting in the midterms.
Beto will win.

But even if Beto loses, he's galvanized a lot of people. He'll have a chance of becoming President some day.

(560 posts)I just feel as though he was born in the wrong state. This guy in Georgia, Florida, NC, AZ, or CA would be lightening in a bottle. But maybe he's right where he needs to be. Even if he doesn't pull it off this year, maybe he'll still be the one to break Texas open.

(65,173 posts)This has a good chance of being a race where we do better than the polls show. They can't gauge all the new enthusiasm. I really like him and maybe could be a VP candidate in 2020 if willing.

(21,566 posts)the reality for the GOP is that the demographics of Texas are changing, and if they lose Texas....... they can pretty much forget about ever holding the white house again.
This is one of the reasons they are so dead set against immigration.

(576 posts)Smokes in deep the optimism drug~~ahhh I hope Beto crushes Cruz hopefully the 10 points cruz is leading in gets his people to not worry themselves to the polls (as he seems to be taking a victory lap) and turn his victory into a -10 defeat when the only poll on election day shows Betos win.
Go Beto our Texan Pride.

(901 posts)I've lived in these parts since before I cast my first vote in 1982 and I have never, ever seen an election like this! The energy here in Texas is incredible and, from my own observations volunteering for our local and national candidates at early voting locations, Beto is going to win and we might even take away a state rep and senate seat. Dems seem to be voting and, if I'm estimating, we're at about 54% vs. their 46%.
Vote Texas Democrats, VOTE! Lives literally depend on your vote!

(4,033 posts)Holy mackerel! I've read about Beto and seen short clips. I've been for him even if I'm not a Texas resident. But seeing him in person, listening to his passion, his enthusiasm, and his genuineness is totally awesome. He's a progressive who knows he can't get everything he wants and is totally willing to work across the aisle to find common ground and compromises that can work.
I think we are going to show the world a slate of amazing candidates for the Democratic candidate for President in 2020!!!
And GO BETO!!!!

(2,674 posts)Beto's my guy, I voted earlier this week, straight Dem ticket. The main problem for Beto is there are thousands more registered Republicans in Texas than Democrats.
In past elections, the Democrats have had good people running, but all were dull as dishwater. Finally we have a candidate with the "it" factor.
I am rubbing my rabbit's foot. throwing salt over my shoulder, keeping my fingers crossed and asking everyone I know to go vote for Beto. And Lupe Valdez, and the Dem who is running against our soon to be attorney general felon, Ken Paxton.

(14,173 posts)Its way too close for any Democrat to win down there. The latest polls show Cruz ahead, and we know that all they need is to get within a few points behind even and combined with voter suppression, machine tally changes, reduced voting hours, closing polling stations, fake news spread on FB, and a constant stream of fear blasting from all of Texas's daytime talk radio "Caravan!!!!" or whatever is the fear de jour.
Because it seems to always work out that when there is any close race, somehow its the Republican that wins out. Even if the exit polls go the other way.
But what will come out of it is Texan's introduction to Beto. And the new face he put on the Democratic party for average Texans. The fact that he will come close will be a step forward. For his stature in that State. In fact, this sets up Beto for a run at the Presidency with a lot of cred built up back home. If not in 2020, then 2024, or 28 depending.
