The star will join Abrams, the Democratic candidate for governor, on Thursday. If Abrams wins the race, she will be the first black woman governor in the history of the US.
Big names in Democratic politics are also rallying to help Abrams in the final stretch of the election: Winfreys visit comes just a day ahead of former president Barack Obama's trip to Atlanta to campaign for Abrams and other Democrats on the ballot at the HBCU Morehouse College. Other senior Democrats who have campaigned in-state for Abrams include former vice president Joe Biden and Senators Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker.
Winfrey has rarely campaigned in-person with political candidates, but did so with Obama in 2008 (she endorsed Hillary Clinton in her presidential bid in 2016).

(36,851 posts)I feel like I am on the edge of my seat with so many of these races.
I may have to cut down on politics this week!

(58,656 posts)I've already voted, so my small part is done.
In my House race it was a dem/dem choice so not prob.
There were Repubs running for other offices, but none got my vote.

(33,346 posts)Oprah campaigning for "the first black woman governor in the history of the US" is pretty big news, IMO. Hopefully, she'll be the spark that overwhelms the cheating that Kemp is doing.
Georgia needs to clean up its voting process.

I totally agree. Also, Oprah is not just a celebrity. She is a philanthropist, advocate and barrier breaker as an African American woman. Apparently some people are tone deaf.
Kemp is an arsehole (just had to get that in there).
