Outrage erupts over Trump campaign ad blaming Democrats for immigrant who 'killed our people'

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's campaign claimed in an ad that Democrats are responsible for a Mexican citizen who killed two California deputies, and Trump's critics have called the spot racist and divisive.

"Illegal immigrant, Luis Bracamontes, killed our people!" reads the opening text in a campaign ad tweeted by Trump Wednesday.

"Democrats let him stay," the next line reads.

The man featured in the video is Luis Bracamontes, a Mexican citizen who had repeatedly entered the U.S. illegally and was sentenced to death for the murder of two Sacramento County sheriff's deputies.

2. Geez. Where do I start to unpack this?

There are undoubtedly problems with the immigration system and there are some cracks that allow some people who shouldn't be here to get (back) in and, yes, some commit the same kind of crimes that other CITIZENS commit BUT it is extremely unfair- not to mention outright false- to pin the blame for stuff like this on any one political party for problems/issues with the immigration system that have existed for YEARS and which the Republicans steadfastly refused to work with President Obama during his years in office to address. Of course, I realize that this ad is garbage and devoid of any reasoning/logic.

Some illegals murder. Some nuns murder. A town with a million has 100 murders per year. Odds you will be murdered one in ten thousand. A million nuns move in and 10 murder. Your odds of being murdered fall to 1.1 out of 20,000. More murders but lower risk of being murdered. Illegals are between nuns and native born. But they lower the odds we will be killed. They make us safer. Even though some murder. The crime rate is what matters, it tells us the odds we will be harmed. Bigots talk about the number of murders. But what matters is the odds we will be harmed. With illegals around the odds we will be harmed go down.

7. in order to call out the lies, they will be repeated by the mass media

and every time Trump and his buddies double down on the lies, their positions will be repeated by mass media

and in a week or so, people will only remember that there was a controversial story about how Democrats let an illegal immigrant murderer rampage across the nation.

it won't necessarily shift a lot of votes -- those most inclined to believe it are already voting for the party of Agent Orange. but it will shift some votes. i fully expect a couple more of these ad campaigns over the next 5 days. the goal is to brand Democrats as the party of open borders and mass murder.
