I was surprised to hear this morning on MSNBC that students at hundreds of schools are planning massive walkouts on election day. I think it was on Stephanie Rule's show and they were talking about students at 500 schools were getting organized.
This is all I could find about it.

More than 25 youth-led activist groups have joined together to launch a campaign encouraging students across the country to walk out of their classrooms to vote on Election Day.
The collective of organizations which includes March For Our Lives, National School Walkout and 50 Miles More initiated the effort as part of their what they're calling the Future Coalition.
David Hogg, the Parkland, Fla., shooting survivor who is also an organizer for March For Our Lives, said the Election Day effort is about working together for a better future.
Anybody else here about it?

(51,590 posts)was on a bus tour in FL to register voters via their iPhones. They wear t-shirts that has that squiggly bar code thingy on it and you scan it and you can register with your iPhone and even find out where you can vote. It is all the newest technology to help generation Z to vote as a convenience to their lifestyle.

(12,448 posts)Henceforth, voting day should be an off day for all students. Actually, it should be a national holiday.

In California, the law guarantees that you can take up to two hours off from work on Election Day without a loss of pay. Know your voting rights: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/time-vote-notices/

I'm a native Californian and never knew this. I am a salaried person, so my managers have never had issue with coming to work a little later to go vote, but never knew hourly worker could do the same - great news.

I have scheduled an exam that day, somehow when I wrote it in I forgot it was election day and now I wonder if I should cancel class and postpone it till next week. It should be a holiday imo.
