Now that I'm a geezer of 73, my sleep is very important to me. So, I'll watch until about 10 PM and roll over and snooze. Then, I can wake up in the morning and watch a more final version of election results. I'm eager to know how it will go, but don't need the emotional roller-coaster of losing sleep to watch results come in.
Some folks are feeling anxious and some don't even know where to watch returns. Some hate one or another reporter who will be reporting on results. Others blame the media when a race doesn't go as they might wish. For those, I suggest 538 or CSPAN for election coverage. That will keep the excitement or panic down to a dull roar.
On Wednesday morning, we'll know a lot more. We may still not know about the Senate, though. That could take a while, if crucial races are very close, like they may be in Texas.
Patience is a virtue. Once the polls close, it's all just counting and maybe recounting. We'll know before long how things went.

(22,977 posts)Stephen Colbert is live tomorrow night and hopefully it'll be a happy, funny show.

(23,182 posts)I may pass out for a while on the couch, but when I wake up I see more news, get spun up & switch to other channels. If things are going as I wish, I will usually go to bed then. If things aren't going well, I'll be anxious and will stay on the couch and the sleep & waking up cycle continues for at least another cycle. So, hoping for a full night of sleep because we will have secured the house, and are looking good for the Senate and Gillum and Nelson and prop 4.

(22,945 posts)I don't get the point of obsessively watching the endless observations and opinions on election nights. the result is the same whether you stayed up and watched it or not. Less painful if you don't.

(146,345 posts)538 and check results in general. My morning paper will have the local races covered, unless some are too close to call.

(129,875 posts)consider the digital edition (that I get). I believe like the NYT, the home delivery of WaPo comes with digital access too.

(5,008 posts)I figure if we win big I will celebrate. If not then being at Disney will keep me away from all of the doom/gloom for the Democratic Party tv coverage. I can not emotionally handle another disappointment like 2016. Then not having DU for support (because of the hackers) made it worse...

(41 posts)I have a bottle of pink champagne in the fridge (not to be confused with the bottle that has been chilling since March 2017 and will not be opened until trump leaves office, one way or another) and I will open it when/if we take the house or if Gillum/Abrams/O'Rourke win their races. I am taking a vacation day from work on Wednesday to either bask in happiness or steel myself for another two years.

(32,854 posts)After the nightmare of 2016 I'll never stay up all night again. It just wasn't worth it and I ended up getting sick over it. The pundits and journos have no choice, they have to keep going no matter what. But in the wee hours they usually run out of interesting or new things to say anyway. I'd rather get some sleep and face the news in the morning.

(43,226 posts)When it began to be obvious things that night that certain things weren't breaking the way we were expecting, I turned off the TV.
DU was down so I couldn't even follow that way. I followed some analysts on Twitter that I was following, but as they were reporting the same negative red flags on TV, I stopped there.
I had planned for a couple of celebratory drinks. Instead I didn't touch anything. I popped a couple of Tylenol PMs, tried to watch a couple of Big Bang reruns, and eventually shut down, worried about what the world would be like when I woke up in the morning.
I woke up, checked the news and it was one of those few times where the worst case scenario I imagined actually came true. I was literally shaking for the first time in my life.

I'll probably have MSNBC on and come down to the computer to see how things are going here and check local news for state/local races (on-line is less frustrating than listening to local anchors drone on and happy-talk)
