In a tweet early Monday, Trump said that law enforcement has been “strongly notified” to watch for “ILLEGAL VOTING.” He promised that anyone caught voting improperly would be subjected to “Maximum Criminal Penalties.” Sessions, in a statement laying out the Justice Department’s plans to monitor ballot access on Election Day, said “fraud in the voting process will not be tolerated. Fraud also corrupts the integrity of the ballot."

In remarks to reporters on his way to a campaign rally in Cleveland, Trump also falsely claimed that voter fraud is commonplace.

“Just take a look,” he said. “All you have to do is go around, take a look at what’s happened over the years, and you’ll see. There are a lot of people — a lot of people — my opinion, and based on proof — that try and get in illegally and actually vote illegally. So we just want to let them know that there will be prosecutions at the highest level.”

There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the United States. Trump formed a commission to study the issue shortly after he took office that was disbanded without finding evidence of fraud after states refused to turn over voter data.

this decade and have swallowed Republican projections of their crimes onto Democrats are a waste of time to talk to. Offer them this and they'll take it as proof that it is all a lie.

Ezra Klein on O'Donnell last night was interesting. Not to be negative, but in talking about gerrymandering and anti-democratic outcomes, he pointed out it was possible that in January the Republicans could have lost the popular vote in the house, the senate, and the presidency and control all three, sparking a legitimacy crisis because the system is rigged against Democrats -- and I'll point out these days against the majority of voters.

Regarding the media, he noted that if the Democrats outvoted Republicans by millions of votes and didn't get control of the house the press would call it a Trump triumph. That if we outvoted by (for example) 7% but didn't gain a majority it would be declared a huge failure for us, but that if we outvoted by only 6% but gained a majority because of geographic factors it would be declared a huge win for us.

That last is something to remember when listening to talking heads regurgitate their safe groupthink, regardless of the outcomes today.
