What was a tight race all night suddenly wasn't. There will be questions about this race for some time to come.

(8,090 posts)Make people wait until they came back up? Hand out paper ballots?
xmas74
(29,674 posts)That's fine but it didn't help the wait since they weren't planning for it.

(8,090 posts)Are there voter ID requirements? Move a polling place away from public transportation like in Kansas? Try "exact match" bullshit like in Georgia? I hope like hell there are groups forming to combat GOP suppression efforts in that - and all - states.

(29,674 posts)nowhere near it.
Also, the Secretary of State refused to release any results whatsoever until the very last vote was cast
, which is fine. The problem with it was that all the exit polls had McCaskill ahead until Ashcroft suddenly announced she had only 39% of the vote. No one seems to quite know where any of it came from.

I held my nose and voted for her but I couldn't talk one of my daughters into doing the same. She didn't vote for Hawley but she wouldn't vote for Claire!

This is the result.

(9,874 posts)who know that they are Democrats and try to expand their electorate by bringing in new voters and getting the ones we already have to turn out to vote rather than wear Halloween masks that make them look like Republicans.
True story: I lived in a red congressional district and one year we had a Dem nominee for congress who showed up at our Dem Club meeting to talk about his campaign. He proceeded to tell us that he was going to tell everyone that he was pro NRA and a big gun rights supporter. He was going to out Republican the Republican candidate. I walked out.

(10,721 posts)Or who help contribute to the media/right wing-driven narrative that calling for something like single-payer is "far left" or extremist (equivalent to or worse than, say, being a white supremacist).
It's maddening. And not a winning strategy by any means.

(9,874 posts)that we are going to choose the right kind of candidates is the number of new, very good and very bright candidates that were elected as candidates (and some like Beto and Gillum and Abrams who weren't elected) that are now very involved in the party. Their continued activity will help make sure that our next group of candidates are high quality and much smarter about how to present themselves as candidates.
