The closer the Senate gets, the more likely one or more goes independent and caucuses with the Democrats when the findings of the special counsel and the Democratically-led committees in the House become public.

Something to keep in mind - it's a cliche, but its a cliche for a reason: every day a US senator wakes up, they look in the mirror and see a future president. NOONE who has that much ambition will ever settle for being a tool for someone like Trump ... so if the Democrats get to 47 or 48, and the indictments start flying, Murkowski, Romney, and their ilk will think seriously about whether they wan to to sacrifice that imagined future by going down with Trump's ship.

My guess is no, they won't.
