What are we supposed to be protesting tomorrow:

Trump firing Sessions?

Sessions resigning?

Whitaker?

Whitaker getting rid of Rosenstein?

Whitaker getting rid of Mueller?

I'm really confused: Right now Whitaker is acting director. Will he recuse himself from Russia? Will he fire Rosenstein? Will he fire Meuller?

What should my sign say? We have to have a message or people will just think we're some rag tag group gathered and won't pay any attention.

There needs to be an "action", but I don't know what it is.

"Nobody is above the law."

A red line has been crossed. The firing of Sessions and the installation of a Trump stooge is designed to stall and weaken the investigation. The investigation must go on as before. Trump should not be allowed to tamper with it, or to interfere with it.

we haven't had any good ones in a while.

I used to go to a lot of protests. The ones during the week pissed off a lot of people working, and the ones on weekends never got noticed. Either way, I rarely saw anything we protested for get done.

5. Whitaker, an obvious Trump hack, usurping Rosenstein

Sessions presence in the AG’s spot was a necessary evil in the very most literal sense of the term. As long as he remained recused, Rosenstein ran the show and all indications were that he was running things fairly.

Now if Rosenstein had simply ascended to the interim AG position after Sessions was fired, there’d be no reason to protest for the time being.

But Trump not only leapfrogged the process and iced out Rosenstein, but also put in his place Whitaker, a man with a blatant record of contempt towards the Mueller investigation who has openly mused about ending or minimalizing it.

So that’s the problem we are facing today.

Today’s protests don’t necessarily rule out further protests if even more steps are taken, such as the actual firing of Mueller. But we need to send a hands off message now.

on a sign can mean anything.

People can think we're protesting domestic violence or something.

The public may not even recognize "Whitaker" on a sign.

All I can think of is "Cruz and Cornyn don't stop the Russia investigation!".

The message needs to be simple. That is the problem.

8. Some people just like street protests.

They don't think much about what those protests accomplish or don't accomplish.

A wiser path would be to quietly dismantle the effects of voter suppression by getting people IDs, getting them registered to vote and educating them on the benefits to them of voting.

But street protests get the blood pumping and make people feel like they accomplished something.

I don't think they're too happy about Session's firing.

Holding them accountable is what we need to accomplish.

17. We are protesting the same thing we would have had Mueller been fired

Anyone who believes that firing Mueller would warrant immediate nationwide protests should understand that this is Trump's attempt to achieve the same end in a slightly more subtle way, designed to avoid triggering off nationwide protests. Trump just hand picked a loyalist lackey, breaking Justice Department appointment rules, to oversee the Special Counsel for the sole reason of undermining Mueller's work in any of a dozen ways. We can't be so gullible as to accept "oh, he didn't actually fire Mueller" and thereby allow Trump to manipulate us into passivity now.

And beyond that it is past any point of debating. I for one agree that this should be the trip wire for our protests, but the call has been made regardless. Either we mobilize in response or we look like a paper tiger.
