And for all the criticism of Trump, he was smart enough to know that all the race baiting over the caravan would wake up enough of his voters to squeak by in certain areas, though just barely enough to overcome Dem enthusiasm in Florida, Ga, etc.

So what do we do? Certainly we don't start pandering to the racists to try to get their votes. We continue to do the things to expand our electorate that Beto, Abrams and Gillum did, only this time we do it on steroids for the whole two years running up to the next election cycle. That's how I see it.

O'Rourke visited every county in the state. Some Texas counties have less 1,000 people, but he went there anyway.

8. Sure, there are still blue votes in rural areas

When I ran for local office they gave us maps that identified the people who lived at each house by party registration and told me to knock on the doors of registered Dems. I ignored them and knocked on everyone's doors, winning over some voters who usually voted Republican. When you do that you essentially get 2 votes by flipping an R to D. Every vote is important certainly.

I just don't want our candidates to pander to red areas by pretending to be Republican lite, as I thing Donnelly, McCaskill and other Dems in some red areas did. Rather, I want them to present themselves as progressive Democrats and expand the electorate. If they also campaign in red areas and win a few of those votes then good for them.

And speaks the language of American values. We can't cede the nationalist space to the conservatives. But we can base progressivism in the best of American traditions.

9. O'Rourke proved that if we try we can convert some of rural America to our side

The problem is that, all to often, we write off the small towns and rural counties and give them to the pukes.

The electoral college and way the senate is apportioned keep the horse races going even though democratically speaking we win every election handily.

I'm here on a farm in southern Illinois representing in a sea of red BTW.

change how both the electoral college and Senate apportioned to their favor. Are we doing that? Do we even have a strategy aside from GOTV and educating voters? Of course not, because we respect and stand by the Constitution.

Fuck the GOP. We will beat them in the end and send them to history's dust bin anyway. ... I just hope that a lot of us actually live to see that day.

7. I'm waiting for the election to be certified to see if my suburban precinct went blue

It has always been reliably red. I'm not sure why. It isn't suburban/suburban....nearby precincts are blue, but for some reason this one has remained red. I live in the San Antonio city limits, but SA annexes. It is why it is the 7th largest city.

This area was annexed in 1982. By northern city standards it would be considered suburban.

A funny combo because the super wealthy would never hang out with those other people in real life except to try and get their votes, like Trump does.
