I am sure his deal is just that, with a big payoff down the line, maybe a minor cabinet position or judicial appointment if that is what he wants. Once Mueller is gone then he will be gone.

and I would agree with you 100% if we were dealing with a sane, rational person as President. But if there is anything I have learned from Trump over the past few years it is that he often does the most outrageous and mind boggling things that you think no one would ever do.

Whuch is why Sessions had to leave yesterday. Whatever he does, he will do today. We may not even know what it is, there are lots of ways he can mess around out of public view.

Mueller could simply be ordered not to seek any further indictments until approved by the acting AG. But if Mueller has sealed indictments already, then they are within the jurisdiction of the courts and not the executive branch after the indictment has been turned over to the court. I think Mueller has probably has it covered.

Thu Nov 8, 2018, 11:10 AM
Nov 2018

they are handed over to the court clerk and the judge will usually wait until the prosecutor asks they be unsealed (released). Most of the time this is done so that they can arrest a defendant before he runs away and for safety of the arresting officers, or, if the investigation is continuing and the prosecutor doesn't want others implicated in an indictment to know they are also being investigated along with those already indicted.

But if Mueller is fired and it becomes apparent to the court that the indictments no longer have any reason to remain secret the court certainly could unseal them and make them public on its own.

Not that there will be any lack of other evidence.

...he's been angling for something from this administration for a long time. He finally got it. I'm sure he didn't ask anyone else the key question: "How might this be bad for me".

Had he asked, some impartial attorney might have told him that by succumbing to the president's direction in an investigation into that president, he could be opening himself up to legal consequences up to and including disbarment and imprisonment.

All he saw was the rewards of his climb and not the cost of his achievement.

Think Icarus. His wings will not last long in the national spotlight. To paraphrase Dorothy "Toto...we're not in the Southern District of Iowa anymore".
