Over the 24 hours since announcing his triumph, Scott's lead shrank from about 60,000 votes outside the recall margin to half that.
Still, that's a large gap for Nelson to overcome and it's not clear where he'll find the votes to close it.
His campaign pointed to a New York Times analysis that estimated 113,000 uncounted ballots in Florida, the vast majority in the Democratic strongholds of Miami-Dade and Broward counties.
However, that analysis relied on voter models that estimated turnout and was not based on outstanding ballot data from local county election offices.
Voter-rich Broward County was still counting votes as of Wednesday.
"I can't give you an exact number. I'm not sure. I'm really not sure," Broward Elections Supervisor Brenda Snipes told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Latest update shows that Nelson has cut Scott's statewide lead down to 21,986 votes so far.

He'd net 22K votes, or 4 more than the current lead.
Of course, that requires those two assumptions to hold.

(31,261 posts)Actually, chill. For in person voting, Florida has scanners that both count the vote instantly and inform a person that he or she has voted. The uncounted vote are likely mailin ballots that were dropped in the mail the day before it on Election Day. I bet my sweet behind that most of the votes are blue votes, because blue voters regularly mail in ballots late (that drives me nuts).

(10,828 posts)all these uncounted votes but the Republican contenders jump out and claim victory.
We see the same situation in AZ where nearly 500,000 votes remain to be counted but McSally has already taken a victory lap.
And then, there's Georgia, the epicenter of voter suppression, electoral day hijinks and a SOS refusing to recuse (until this morning's resignation) during his own election bid.
Same old, same old.

They make the claims to attempt to discourage counting of remaining votes.

I suppose the good thing? Voters are seeing the shenanigans in broad daylight. And sunlight has always been an effective disinfectant.
