I get that shes been demonized by the right BUT DAYUM!!!!!!! Our side seems to have given into the hype. The right has demonized her BECAUSE SHE DID HER JOB RIGHT!
There is NO BETTER time for her to be Speaker than now! This is the time that we need her the most! With this chaotic White House, WE NEED HER NOW!
Besides, who else is even throwing their hat in the ring?
Im tired of the Nancy-hate. No other Democrat should even attempt to get the Speakership.

And I'm sure Mel didn't mind one bit.

(8,251 posts)For now, it needs to be Nancy that juggles Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. Shes the only one I can confidently say can effectively navigate that filthy swamp of a-holes shes surrounded by.

(39,374 posts)The Rs term limit committe chairs and we dont. Look at the age of our ranking members compared to theirs. Nadler would still be sitting behind Conyers if he hadnt been nailed for harassment. Thats an example of how bad it is. The anti-Nancys arent bad Democrats. They have careers to worry about too you know.

(I strongly support her as Speaker for the next two years, but would like to see the overall leadership handed down to the next generation after we get through this crisis).
Also: MORE CAPS AND !!!!!!!!!

(11,738 posts)I think that any Democratic House member that is interested, should attempt to gain the Speakership. I think that is how a functioning democracy works, even within the structures we have.
I just happen to believe that she is the ABSOLUTE best person for the position and would likely trounce anyone else running.
In It to Win It
(8,251 posts)I happen to think this is bigger than someones ambitions. We all have a common enemy and we believes hes the true enemy of the people.
Because we think she would be the best to deal with that threat, the party should rally behind her.

(11,738 posts)We never want to be like Republicans, who are basically automatons. We can withstand a bit of debate. Nancy will win.

(9,874 posts)There's gonna be all kinds of legislation to pass, investigations and probably impeachment. Nancy knows all the ins and outs of the job and is tough as nails. We need her as speaker.

(814 posts)Pelosi is effective, smart, strong and focused. We are privileged having her stepping into the Leadership role with the mess we are in.

(2,897 posts)There's nothing wrong with Pelosi, but people need to stop acting like she's the only one capable of running the house, especially when a lot of the technical details are written down, handled by staffers paid to do so, and handled by committee chairs and their staffers. If she were to retire tomorrow, the house would not grind to a halt. It would continue on as it has for years.
This is about leadership, persuasion, trust and respect. If she can't use those qualities to get 218 votes, then she can't do the most basic part of her job anymore and doesn't deserve the Speakership. The same goes for any other house member that is unable to do the same. The Tim Ryan/Seth Moulton side can't manage 218, but I'm not convinced that there aren't others who could. I like Speaker Pelosi and want to see a Speaker Pelosi, however if she squeaks by, then it's going to be the second coming of Boehner, when tough legislation needs to pass and the caucus abandons her.
