Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Why half of America panics when this woman falls ill

During President Barack Obama's two terms in office, some liberal pundits wondered loudly if it wasn't time for Ginsburg to retire, with a Democrat in office who could be relied upon to install another liberal justice. Those calls have been dismissed by Ginsburg, with some irritation on her part.

"Many people have asked me, 'Well, when are you going to step down?'" she said in an interview this year. "As long as I can do the job full steam, I will be here."

Carmon is quick to point out that this is not the first time Ginsburg has broken her ribs, and that while she has survived two battles with cancer, and had a stent placed in her heart in 2014, she has never missed a day of arguments.

"Each time she's returned with just as much determination and resilience," says Carmon. "She has been at this work for at least a half-century, and she's not done yet."

She could have retired when Dems held the Presidency and the Senate. There was speculation at the time that she would. I think it was the time she had pancreatic cancer.

She knew the score and chose not to retire. She is doing this on her terms so excuse me if I don't sit around going "poor old lady".

I don't know her reasons, but to CHOSE not to retire when she knew BO could replace her with a younger and liberal Justice.

But when you are 85, most of the sand has run out of the hourglass of your life. I'm sure RGB is well aware of her mortality and knows full well that death can come at anytime in spite of her being a survivor. But I bet she wishes that more people on the Left in the battleground states in 2016 clearly understood that it does make a difference who they voted for.
Let's hope she is still here in 2021.

26 months, that's how long the Republicans have to potentially install another Justice if anything happens to any of them.

I think Thomas will retire within the next year now that it's clear his replacement could get through the Senate pretty easily.
