While there is loss, I also feel intense gratitude, waves of it every day. How was I so lucky to be part of something so amazing?Link to tweet

(56 posts)Beto can beat Trump because Beto lost. This proves Beto is not a part of the establishment that Trump supporters hate. Not all Trump supporters are deplorables and Beto can attract them. We must think outside the box.

(58,785 posts)I hate that coming so amazingly close to winning inevitably creates regret at somehow not have done more, something differently, though. He did spectacularly and his charisma and character have made him known to the entire nation.
I've found myself wishing Beto would consider moving and running for the senate in another, somewhat less red state in 2020. I want his ideals and ability to inspire in our national politics.

(3,469 posts)That's not much of a stretch considering he lives in El Paso. Wouldn't need to move far, at all.

(58,785 posts)dollars toward a U-Haul. Darn! Just looked NM's senators up, both Democrats. Senator Heinrich was just handily reelected, and Tom Udall won't be up again until 2022. And I'm thinking knocking off one of the Udall family might be kind of difficult and a bad intro to the state.

(3,469 posts)New Mexico has two good dem senators already. It's just the most logical state for a move because of the proximity. A guy from El Paso doesn't seem like much of a carpetbagger if he moves to Las Cruces.

(58,785 posts)for that, but at least they wouldn't have to get used to fighting mold and rust on everything. I spent years in Southern California and miss the desert itself, so I could understand if they hated to leave it.
Perhaps we should confine our search to the southwest.

Very moving and beautiful.
I am incredibly sorry that he didn't win.

(3,764 posts)A Dutch baby pancake, sometimes called a German pancake,[1] a Bismarck, or a Dutch puff, is a large American popover.
A Dutch Baby served with lemon slices, powdered sugar, butter, and a side of bacon
A Dutch baby pancake is similar to a large Yorkshire pudding.[2] Compared to a typical pancake, a Dutch baby is always baked in the oven, rather than being fried on both sides on the stove top, it is generally thicker than most pancakes, and it contains no chemical leavening ingredients, such as baking powder.
The idea of a Dutch baby pancake may have been derived from the German Pfannkuchen, but the current form originated in the US in the early 1900s.

Here's hoping it'll be different next time.

(21,635 posts)Using the Florida butterfly ballot fracas in 2000 to impose electronic voting and tabulation was a stoke of genius, from their standpoint.
I believe it was the intrepid former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney who referred to Bush's Help America Vote Act as the "Help America Vote Republican" Act.
She knew a con when she saw one.

Tarrant County, among the most conservative suburban counties in Tx, is now PURPLE. What's more, majority voted for Beto.
I've also read that many Republicans split their vote for Abbott (reelected governor) and Beto instead of voting for Cruz. My belief is due to gerrymandering and voter suppression (especially among high minority areas) possibly led to Beto's loss.
The silver lining is he came very close, and has gotten great press and national exposure as a result. I hope in the least he will run against Cornyn in 2020.

And demonstrated for all to see at the literal most crucial time where it may inspire hope, perseverance, and contribution from the people after a withering plunge into engineered, lethal apathy and cynicism.
A bright, warm light in these choking black time of trouble.
Thank you for this successful lifeline your campaign provided, Mr O'rourke.

(800 posts)I would love to see him in Washington D. C. I don't live in Texas but I have been in awe of him and how he campaigned and spoke to real people. I donated to his campaign and really wanted him to prevail over slimy Ted Cruz. I so hope he continues to pursue a political career. We need someone with that class, generosity, compassion and intelligence in office.

(13,877 posts)Get him national attention, place in DC, and set him up for next president. With relevant experience, he will be unstoppable.
Another thing I thought of, is that when people see and understand real humanity and grace, that is who is attracted. As opposed to a con man attracting other con men.
