Stan Lee has been at death's door for months. I think the newspaper obituaries and such were probably ready to go, Luckevich and other cartoonists were also ready no doubt.

Not that any of us are happy that he's gone. But that's the newspaper business, they are rarely caught flat-footed.

Luckovich is a genius -- hilarious, too, but obviously he has reverence for Stan Lee as an icon of the field.

Seth Rogan on Twitter thanked him for making the strange kids special. I think that is the truest thing I’ve seen in all the tributes today.
