Bette Midler attacked on Twitter by Melania Trump fans

Wednesday, Midler tweeted a NSFW (not suitable for work) photo of first lady Melania Trump from a steamy shoot with British GQ in 2000.

The image which Midler shared from the flight-themed spread shows Trump posing in the cockpit wearing an ensemble that appears to expose her nipples.

"The dry cleaning bill for the upholstery on Air Force One must be insane," Midler cracked to nearly 1.5 million followers.

(Trump’s supporters) were quick to slam Midler, 72, for her quip.

Someone described Midler's "bullying" as "shameful."
"Mean people never bring joy," the user added.
"First and most she is now our first lady; have some respect," one user directed.

Chelsea Clinton is 13 years old.

Here is another joke told by Limbaugh on the air: He, Rush Limbaugh, gets onto an elevator. The only other passenger is Hillary Clinton. She tears off all her clothes, throws herself on the floor and begs him, "Rush, make a woman out of me." So Limbaugh tears off all his clothes, throws them at Clinton and says, "Fold those."

Back in the early 90s when Limbaugh was first rising to RW significance, he called then 13 year old Chelsea Clinton "The President's Dog" or something to that effect.

Rush later apologized and said he was supposed to be making a joke and the slide of Chelsea came up instead (I think this may have been back when he had a short lived late night show). However, several years later, Al Franken made the point in his book "Lying Liars..." that if there was supposed to be a joke in there, what was the joke? (hint, there was no mistake - Rush was deliberately insulting a 13 year old girl)

Continue to insinuate about Michelle Obama being transgender. As a FLOTUS the level of vitriol should not be directed since they are in the public eye but above the politics.
However, for Melania who has plagiarized speeches from Michelle Obama, whose status as an immigrant is revered by an administration who wishes to remove many immigrants some naturalized and other legally here, her disrespect of Americans with her insistence of flight seats and yes her earlier choices of displaying herself in the public forum (which attracted her to the current occupant) and stating bullying is wrong while married to him makes me IMHO subject to her being part of the politics rather than above and more importantly working against the American people.

I have no “slut-shame” in being critical of “Melameanie’s” nude photos. The choices she made when she was younger are just that “choices”. She is responsible for them and they were choices that she put in the public forum. Choices have consequences.

Nobody forced Melania to pose for that already very public photo. It's sure not the most explicit. Some of her other photo shoots -

It is legal and it's one of the ways she supported herself. At that point, she likely never imagined the turn her life would take. That being said, I have no 'sympathy' for her, now that they've become an inconvenience, and possible embarrassment (especially for her son). Just another example of delayed consequences for past decisions.

I wonder if the campaign had any strategy to deal with just this sort of thing, or if they were so convinced they'd lose, it never made it off of the back burner.

Now that Melania Trump is the First Lady, Trump supporters are saying things like, "First and most she is now our first lady; have some respect". They did not feel the same way when Michelle Obama was First Lady. Michelle Obama went through far more than Melania Trump for far less. Michelle Obama was raked over the coals by Republicans just for being black.

Midler posted a photo from Melania Trump's professional oeuvre and made a comment about dry cleaning bills for the upholstery, nothing else. Were people unaware of Trump's prior career, and they're upset with Midler about that for some reason? Or is this another one of those clean-slate-all-is-now-forgiven indulgences that folks grant left and right to the Trump family because they're pretty sure God appointed and anointed Donald J. Trump?
