As a child we NEVER put up our tree until about a week before Christmas.. It was always fresh.. and as a young adult, I was adamant that I would not put up a tree right after Thanksgiving.. and never ever use a faux tree..
Time moves on.. I become a parent, and stories about trees catching on fire, had me buying that fire resistant faux tree.. and it kept getting put up earlier every year..
I am now an older adult, and my child is 31.. and I was still complaining about the trees that go up so early especially right after Thanksgiving..
Well my friends, my faux tree is up and the lights are all lit, because I am celebrating our wonderful blue wave that took back the House..
I am celebrating.. with my tree and lights, and yes egg nog and brandy..

(6,552 posts)It is amazing what regaining a little power can do for ones outlook on any situation. As for Christmas trees, we always put up faux trees in the basement rec room and a small Victorian theme tree in the living room. Our "real" tree went up in the family room about 10 days before Christmas eve. I love decorating for Christmas and approve strongly of using you tree to celebrate the blue wave.

(12,265 posts)We invited some students over this weekend to help put up the tree, have some hot cider and cookies. The kids seemed so excited when we asked if anyone wanted to help.
It has been a long year, I need some joy and my tree and trimmings give it to me. I am glad I'm not alone!

(6,552 posts)I never stopped saying "Merry Christmas", but that is just my stubborn streak showing, I guess. Meanwhile, back to celebrating the blue wave.

(11,769 posts)Our move-in date is mid December, so I have no idea if we'll have our tree up. We may just purchase a little table top live tree, just so there is a bit of a festive feeling.
Enjoy your tree and the warm feelings it brings.

(1,725 posts)We have many beautiful cat ornaments and our cats never disturb the tree. They like to lay near it and last year we decided to leave the tree up all year because we all like the glow at night. It casts a peaceful and happy mood all year long, every night.

I don't do home shopping networks, never have and never will. I have a plan for where my money goes, and it does not go to home shopping networks.

I'm considering putting some lights up now, too. Go ahead and do it, and call it "Celebrating the Mid-Terms!"

(12,165 posts)decorating the house for the holidays is how we celebrate the coming of winter.
Gifts will be in short supply this year. But Joy will be in our home in abundance.

(12,165 posts)I was thinking, why not do something crazy and put the tree up before Thanksgiving this year.
My husband wants to put the lights on the house early. Maybe we'll have some of our landscaping lit in beautiful blue.

(13,877 posts)even the "before Thanksgiving" crowd still catches it somewhat.
Love how it makes you feel...stand strong...pun intended.
Maybe if we left them up all year long, we'd continue that "Peace and Good Will" is the state of the land and not just the season. Unfortunately, it would have to be a faux tree.

(40 posts)There were six children in our 4 room house with an outdoor bathroom....my mom put our tree up one month before xmas...she loves xmas...she kept it up until the day after Santa showed to our delight...then out it would go..six kids in a 4 room house with a tree that took up too much space for a month was her way of instilling the wonder of xmas. I followed doing the same...so enjoy your tree and bah humbug to those who think you are not following proper protocol...scrooges all

(11,648 posts)In 2016 my wife was dying from cancer. Coupled with the election, there was no cause to be celebratory. She died in 2017 and again I had nothing. But this year, my grief is manageable and white supremacists have been slapped down, so up go the lights.
