So just a reminder to all.... this is a scam which is apparently happening with more frequency lately. The caller i.d. has the same number as the actual SSA but it is NOT them calling. Hang up. Hang up. Hang up. Do not give any information.
Their website says to call this number to report it if you want to. I just tried to call and they say the wait time is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Still when you get a call like that it can be scary. I hung up and immediately looked online to see if this was a scam and felt reassured that it was.

(21,722 posts)I've never fallen for any of the scam calls, and I know the IRS sends you a letter first. It still makes your heart jump a little. I don't even answer the phone any more unless I know who is calling. I had a message left from some supposed veterans group, and the message was in Chinese or something similar since I don't speak Chinese, I don't know for sure if that was what language it was. I actually had several message left on my phone in some foreign language.
