just got a scam Social Security robocall...

So just a reminder to all.... this is a scam which is apparently happening with more frequency lately. The caller i.d. has the same number as the actual SSA but it is NOT them calling. Hang up. Hang up. Hang up. Do not give any information.

Their website says to call this number to report it if you want to. I just tried to call and they say the wait time is 1 hour and 45 minutes.

will call you, unless you have made an inquiry that they are responding to.

Still when you get a call like that it can be scary. I hung up and immediately looked online to see if this was a scam and felt reassured that it was.

4. Scary, but not quite as scary as getting a call from the "IRS" that they are about to arrest you

I've never fallen for any of the scam calls, and I know the IRS sends you a letter first. It still makes your heart jump a little. I don't even answer the phone any more unless I know who is calling. I had a message left from some supposed veterans group, and the message was in Chinese or something similar since I don't speak Chinese, I don't know for sure if that was what language it was. I actually had several message left on my phone in some foreign language.

Both the IRS and SS will send you correspondence first, before calling (and only calling in response to your call).

That is what the scammers are counting on. I don't answer the phone much any more

that call was on my landline. I reported that one on their online form.

you should go to a Social Security office to ask about it. Do not ever give info to anyone of the phone, ever.

I didn't answer. It's obviously a scam. They think you'll be so curious you'll pick up.

by telcoms to stop phone number spoofing.

We can see how well that's working out.
