You have to count legs and hands to see two guys are mostly obscured.

John Bradley, the only man to participate in both flag raisings, was a Navy corpsman.

There is a picture of the first flag coming down as the larger flag is being raised. I found out a couple of years ago that my seventh grade social studies teacher is in that photo. He was a 19 year-old marine at the time. He never said a word about it until recently.
