(17,984 posts)You should have seen the pile they made on the corner of our lot one year. At least eight feet tall! Crushing all the little plants underneath it. And we paid for that shit?! Did I mention my wife left me, too?

(36,298 posts)It was a huge drift casued by the wind off off Lake Superior. Once when I was a kid, there was a blizzard and my grandfater was trapped in his trailer as it was covered with snow. I had to dig hard to get to his door.

(6,810 posts)The story was originally written as a white guy from Florida or Southern California moving to New England. Still funny, but I could do without the abrupt and seemingly racist rewrite half way through changing the voice from plain American English to affected Jamaican accent.

(268,997 posts)Where I disagree is that there is anything racist about the language switch. That suggests you know very little about Jamaican or Caribbean culture. What makes it so funny is that large numbers of Caribbean people speak their native dialect and English and given that the dialect is spoken at home revert to it naturally.
