They're what he aspires to be. Putin, Kim Jong Un, the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia. All murderous tyrants. That's how Trump wants to operate. Tyrants are his heroes. I wouldn't doubt that he also admires Stalin, Hitler, and Pol Pot.
Trump thinks the President of the United States should be able to do whatever he wants, regardless of laws, ethics, and common sense. He is like a 13-year-old boy who is not popular at school, and who wants to destroy all those who mock him. Destroy. He hasn't acted out his fantasies, but has thought it all through and is just waiting for the right moment.
That is the most frightening aspect of his Presidency, I think. As he slips further and further into his mental decline, it will become harder and harder for him to keep his desires in check. That's one more thing to worry about, as long as he is in office.

(146,288 posts)but Presidents do have a lot of power. Trump is testing it to see just how far he can push it. He sent thousands of troops to Texas on a whim, despite the knowledge that the migrants were heading for the California border. $200 million down the drain for a useless show of power.
People do speak out against what is does, but they haven't enough power to check him. Presidents are only vulnerable to impeachment and removal from office, and that is impossible as long as Republicans have control of the Senate. The Republicans have hitched their wagon to Donwald Trump. They do not think they can unhitch him and he's always on the verge of running away with the wagon with them on board.

(102,239 posts)attitudes, and policies? Do they know that the US has NEVER faced someone as bad as this? DO they have any idea just how unAmerican he is?
Every day, I wake up and am determined to take a news break away from the latest assaults on our intelligence and Democracy. But, then, I just can't NOT KNOW.

(146,288 posts)Even on DU, we see people proposing things that cannot be accomplished within the structure of our government. They don't know how it works, and don't understand the limitations, nor the power a rogue President can wield.

(18 posts)Bannon and Trump are doing everything they can to SUPPORT Putin in his effort to de-stabilize Western Europe, and drive an economic wedge between the USA and China.
They are supporting far-right leaning candidates, autocrats, and anti Democracy movements.
AND THEY ARE SUCCEEDING
Just look at Hungary, Poland, Austria, Germany, Italy . . . AND Brazil.
What can we, as citizens do about it?????????????????????????
??????????????????????????????????

(146,288 posts)We made some progress this year. But, we must regain control of federal government in 2020. If we do not, we may lose the ability to do so later.

(63,846 posts)Keep on voting the way we did for the Mid Terms, and push back harder. Our work is not done, we are in this for the long haul. Voter suppression needs to be dealt with too.
Also I would add Stephen Miller too. He has in hands in this too.

(146,288 posts)in the past 24 hours. However, merely having his tax returns will not accomplish much of anything. Unless there is action taken by Congress, they won't matter.

(279 posts)I think we've strayed from some key points... I'm tired of hearing what travesty trump said here or there... let's try to do something about it... he's a DICK... we all know that... so let's stop trying to shame him... it's not going to happen...
DEMAND his tax returns... that will reveal more about the man then anything...
MineralMan
(146,288 posts)Yes, we'd all like to see his tax returns. However, we can demand as much as we like, but we have no authority to force him to provide them. We will see them, in the end, perhaps. But we can't really do anything to force him to show them.
So, we do other things.
