Trump will never see a day in jail

Nor will any other future Republican American president. And the reason is simple. Democrats will worry about a Dem president being jailed the next time the Republicans control the house and senate, -- jailed for any reason, made up, or real.

Republicans don't worry about such niceties. They tried their best to throw Clinton out of office, and then try him for perjury or whatever, and then "lock him up." We Dems don't inhabit the same moral planet as that on which Republicans live.

So the bottom line is that Dems will never try to prosecute Trump for whatever crimes Mueller uncovers, because they fear future retaliation.

We live in a country with two sets of rules: Republicans can do whatever they want to do; Democrats can't.

Disagree with the general, overall picture I've laid out here? Okay. Please state your view of the current reality in America.

That headline is a standard response that professional journalists often quote in reply to what they've stated in print.

And, yes. That "excuse" for not upholding the law sucks. All I can say is move to a planet where "absolute" justice, and "doing the right thing," prevails.

And rich/powerful people don't go to jail. They just don't. People lower on the food chain, i.e. Manafort, Gates, Papadopoulous fall on their swords and go instead.

The 2008 crash taught us that. There were so many big names that should have been locked up for life. Instead, they got a slap on the wrist and kept going.

ignorant white wing racist who will hang the jury if necessary to protect trump.

As you mention, I do think fear of retaliation is possible, although trump's case is so different from anything one can imagine. It's one thing to fear retaliation for actions taken in office that are more of a policy matter. It's another to screw with elections, go after opponents or journalists, manipulate matters while Prez to profit directly, etc.

One way or another, he's going to skate on it all. If he resigns, Pence will pardon him. If he doesn't get elected in 2020, he won't be charged. We're almost certainly not going to try, convict and imprison a former President. The precedent that would set would be very, very dangerous to ever President ever elected in the future.

That's unfortunate, but it's also reality.

In fact, he's really backed into a corner now. The only way he definitely stays out of jail is to remain president. Sure, federal charges can be pardoned, but I think the State of New York is all over his finances and scam foundation. I think it's possible he goes to jail at some point.

Will he have a couple agents standing outside his cell at all times he's in it? Will they follow him everywhere, like, standing there guarding him in line at the Mess Hall, sunglasses on, wearing their suits, with their communication earpieces in place ... looking around in all directions for 'threats' i.e. making sure he's kept safe from other inmates, or ... how would that work exactly?

VP Agnew's plea deal allowed him to plead Nolo Contendere to a minor tax charge. He had to resign, but avoided all jail time and restitution.

Clinton plead guilty to a lesser charge for lying to the Grand Jury. He was disbarred (a non-issue, since it was doubtful he'd ever practice law) and he avoided any jail time.

Nixon was fully pardoned by Ford

Obama went out of his way not to hold war crimes trials.
