That "Second Coming" thing refers to the belief of some that Jesus will come again, along with all of that "Armageddon and destruction" stuff.
Somehow, we humans have managed to reach what we measure as the 21st century without destroying ourselves. (Although nature seems to be well on the way to doing that for us.) But somehow, many Americans who are so called "Christians," seem to believe that humanity is fucked, on the verge of self-destruction, and that the "Second Coming" thing is imminent.
Personal opinion here: Most of those who believe in the "Second Coming," and all the stuff that goes with it, wouldn't believe that their Jesus had returned unless he was a white, Republican, straight American, Christian who didn't live in San Francisco. And even then, he'd probably need to spew a lot of hate about the "Thems" before many started to buy into him.
Jeeezus, fucking Christ. We're talking about a guy who was supposedly the son of a Jewish carpenter who went around preaching about loving each other.
How could/would any Republican believe that a "second coming" had happened? How could/would any Republican believe that some "judgement day" had arrived?
How could/would any Republican justify backing some guy named Donald Trump as their president?
Damn. I could go on forever. But really. How can any "Christian" defend this so-called president? I mean, really. How?

(13,877 posts)"Jesus has been coming soon" for 2,000 years. Kind of stretches the definition of "soon". Political Christians today couldn't pass a test on the Beatitudes...the foundation of their New Testament/Jesus teaching...let alone, as stated in the OP, him "coming back" as a brown, long-haired, Arab itinerant. Not even.
So you see, anyone that thinks "soon" as in 2,000 years, is not quite thinking functionally . The rest of my family doesn't feel comfortable when I'm around...because we've had "these conversations" and, being a thinking, functional articulate liberal, I usually win. They really are quite Trump-like...defend, deny, obfuscate. He's certainly got the schtick down, to be sure.

(16,829 posts)are the kind of people who fall for one con artist after another. Their ministers are con artists. Their politicians are con artists. They buy things from salespeople who are con artists.
And the amazing thing is that they hardly ever realize that they've been mercilessly duped.
