Small Campaign Donors Are Gift That Keeps Giving
(snip)
List building will be an essential exercise for most presidential candidates in what is likely to be another costly race. The 2016 presidential field, which included more than 15 GOP hopefuls, collectively raised $1.5 billion, according to the nonpartisan Center for Responsive Politics. If historic patterns hold, the 2020 race will be even more expensive.
California Sen. Kamala Harris, who has visited early presidential primary states, spent almost $1.2 million this year on Facebook ads that prompted people to hand over their email addresses and other details; Ms. Warren spent about $603,000 on similar ads. Texas Democratic Rep. Beto ORourke lost his challenge to Republican Sen. Ted Cruz but walked away with a giant list of donors, though he has said he isnt interested in running for president.
Even if he doesnt run again, Mr. ORourke has a valuable asset in his possession. Democrat Jon Ossoff, who raised $30 million mostly from small donors in his unsuccessful campaign for a Georgia House seat in a special election last June, has pulled in more than $1.2 million in new campaign money by renting his supporter list to a digital firm that works with other Democrats, Federal Election Commission reports show.

=====
For awhile I was getting two emails a day from the dccc or someone else. Finally "unsubscribed."
I am old fashioned, do not contribute on line. Paper check in a stamped envelope is how I donated to local candidates (all won..)
