Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez first rocked the political world by toppling Queens party boss Rep. Joe Crowley and the incoming freshman continues to shake up the way things are done on Capitol Hill.
But the 29-year-old democratic socialist isnt the only newcomer looking to leave her mark on the 116th Congress.
More than three dozen freshman Democrats will join the House next Congress the biggest Democratic class in four decades and the most diverse group ever elected.
The incoming class boasts a range of backgrounds and ideologies, from liberal insurgents like Ocasio-Cortez to candidates who scored unexpected victories in deep-red districts long claimed by Republicans.

Not even sworn in & already opposing the Democratic leadership, the Party that brought him to the House.
Yes, there's a good reason to be wary of one or more of these new members alright.
Not all rode the Dem Party coattails to DC for the same reason.

BEN McADAMS
From the link
Rep.-elect McAdams says he wants to get to work on DACA, could vote for a GOP speaker over Pelosi
Rep.-elect Ben McAdams, D-Utah, has pledged to oppose Rep. Nancy Pelosis bid for another term as speaker of the House.
But with no alternative Democrat running yet to challenge Pelosi, D-Calif., does that mean McAdams would cross the aisle and support a Republican speaker?
I guess well have to see who is running, McAdams said.
During a Wednesday interview with The Salt Lake Tribunes Trib Talk" podcast, McAdams said he intends to vote for someone as speaker rather than vote present or abstaining as some Pelosi critics are expected to do. But McAdams declined, or was unable, to specify who would carry his support during the upcoming leadership votes.
Its important to take a stand, he said. The Democratic Party wants to be the party of new ideas and inclusiveness. And I think its time to make way for new leaders.
Stab in the back, is more like it.

As long as Nancy gets the votes she needs to be speaker, it will be OK.

(25,309 posts)He won...right?
Is it better he or Mia Love?
They attached Gina Ortiz Jones to Nancy Pelosi and she lost to Will Hurd.
That's what Republican attack ads do...they say, "Gina Jones too liberal for Texas". (They even took out the Ortiz in her name to make it sound like she was on outsider. And they also called her a Washington insider because she worked in Washington DC for awhile)
I guess you don't live in a red part of the country.

(54,372 posts)Last time I was in Dallas, I got a call from him looking for a contribution. I didn't let off the hook for free. I told him to tell me what was on his mind, as asked quite a few questions. He didn't rush to get me off the phone, and was willing to talk about anything I wished. I was impressed enough to send him a three figure contribution even though at the time, I didn't see him beating the awful Pete Sessions. But he did, and I'm ready to see what a difference Colin's election will make. Not much, at first, but he seemed like an articulate, capable man, and I have hopes that he will be more than just an anti-Pete-Sessions.

(1,406 posts)He is as perfect a voice as we could wish for.
With his large base of professsional & personal associates behind him, I never doubted his win against dull, absent Sessions.
He'll make wise & sound decisions without needing to be in the spotlight of the cameras to make his mark in the House.
He is impressive & professional & our District holds enormous pride & faith in Rep Allred..
yaaaa!

Perhaps that's when gerrymandering first came to my attention, though it had, no doubt been done in various fashions throughout history.
Delay just shoved it blatantly in our faces.

(3,259 posts)How is she shaking up the way things are done on Capitol Hill?
We have a lot of new faces in the party and that is a great thing. With respect to races this time around we saw everyone from the DNC to the blogosphere to brave individuals willing to take the risk head more toward a fifty state strategy. Getting our voice out there even in knowingly unwinnable districts. We have to keep this mindset moving forward and it will continue to provide positive result and a party with many new faces. Many of these races are much different than Cortez who ousted a powerful progressive member of Congress.

(1,406 posts)Her creds seem to stop there, from what I have seen of her background.
She has energy & the opportunity to learn from the best, as do all the new members.
They all have an equal voice & an equal vote.
I look forward to watching how she votes when the real work begins, as well as the rest of our grand, proud fighters of the 2019 Democratic House.
I wish her & her new colleagues well.
They can accomplish great things for this country as a unified group.
I can't wait!

(3,259 posts)Though I am a bit more interested to see her involvement making legislation. Will she get deeply involved in the process or will she lob bombs from the outside making it more about online popularity.
No double she is a media creation. Dividing democrats has been a bit difficult for the media and this was one of the very few races with somewhat shocking results that supported a narrative built over the last three or four years that never really happened. We simply replaced a powerful progressive in this district. Im not sure people fully understand that what happened here might result in this district having a less progressive influence on actual legislation and in committees. That void will simply be taken up by others.

(58,785 posts)checking it twice -- starting from the top -- for those who want to know who the movers and shakers are and what they're planning. Nothing wrong with smiling at these new faces.
But for god's sake let's take the media rings out of our noses and throw them away. They like NEW and shiny, are bored with people they've been writing about before, even if our existing experienced and powerful committee leaders are where the real action is.
Speaking of the holidays,
On Black Friday, a group of Democratic lawmakers want to stop Grinch bots from scooping up all the inventory of the years hottest Christmas presents. Grinch bots cannot be allowed to steal Christmas, or dollars, from the wallets of countless consumers, ... The Democrat from New York was one of the three senators announcing new legislation that seeks to block third-party systems from gaming the online sales systems of major retailers to buy out inventory and then re-sell it at a much elevated price points.
Grinch bots are stealing the holidays by snatching up hot toys, driving up prices, and leaving parents empty handed on Christmas morning. We successfully banned ticket bots and we can use that same strategy to banish toy bots once and for all putting consumers back in charge, Blumenthal said in a statement. ...
Letting these grinch bots continue to rig the retail market and squeeze consumers doesnt just hurt families during the holidays, it hurts small business owners, entrepreneurs, innovative product creators and all legitimate retailers throughout the year, said Rep. Paul Tonko, a Democrat from New York who announced he was introducing a House companion.

Sharice is the nose to the grindstone type who will fight for reasonable change that will consistently push us further left in increments easy for public consumption.
