And it's taking a lot of hard-working, innocent people with it. In Trump country.

General Motors will close three assembly plants by the end of 2019, it said Thursday, including Detroit-Hamtramck, Lordstown in Ohio and Oshawa in Ontario.
Approximately 5,600 jobs are at stake: roughly 1,500 in Hamtramck; 1,600 in Lordstown; and about 2,500 in Oshawa.
The Hamtramck plant makes the Chevrolet Volt and Impala, the Cadillac CT6 and the Buick LaCrosse.
"GM is continuing to take proactive steps to improve overall business performance, including the reorganization of its global product development staffs, the realignment of its manufacturing capacity and a reduction of salaried workforce," the company said in a news release Monday.
We recognize the need to stay in front of changing market conditions and customer preferences to position our company for long-term success, said GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra.
The announcement is part of aggressive cost-cutting from the Detroit carmaker, which had a deadline last week for North American salaried workers who had at least 12 years with the company to accept a voluntary buyout offer. The Free Press reported that the company hoped to trim 7,000 white-collar jobs and has said it could move ahead with involuntary cuts if the number of workers stepping forward falls short.

(63,278 posts)the major problem of huge amounts of soybeans that have been harvested with nothing to be done with them.
Farmers must now find storage bins to put their harvest in. Such companies have raised their prices since space is at a premium.
Next spring it may be hard for farmers to get loans to buy seed, and repair or purchase equipment and of course to buy daily life sustaining products in their small towns where small businesses depend on their dollars.
All these bits of economic insecurity will be adding up to a mess which no one in that admin nitration will have any idea how to address. It is hard to react when all you have is Fox News platitudes.

(31,261 posts)People losing jobs, farmers unable to farm, has a ripple effect through the Near economies, and less impact farther away. What will happen in my guess is that highly populated, diverse economy places like big cities and their suburbs will get richer compared to the industrial Midwest and farming regions of the country, further worsening the political divide between those places.
