At her concession speech, Love recalled that Trump had attacked her for a lack of loyalty to him following the November midterms.
Mia Love gave me no love, Trump complained at the time.
What did he have to gain by saying such a thing about a fellow Republican? Love told a crowd of supporters on Monday. Mr. President, well have to chat about that. However, this gave me a clear vision of his world as it is. No real relationship just convenient transactions. That is an insufficient way to implement sincere service and policy.
This election experience and these comments [from Trump] shines a spotlight on the problems Washington politicians have with minorities and black Americans, Love continued. Its transactional. Its not personal. Politicians claim they know whats best for us from a safe distance. Yet, they are never willing to take us home.
Because Republicans never take minorities communities into their home and citizens into their homes and into their hearts, they stay with Democrats and bureaucrats in Washington because they do take them home, she added. Ive seen the cost to conservatives for not truly taking people into their hearts. Democrats saw newly-elected black members and women to Congress in this election. This is a matter of fact that Republicans lost in this regard.

(7,447 posts)If you want to be a conservative, fine, I guess...but why not be an independent? Or a conservative Democrat?

(659 posts)I don't get it. She should sever ties with that stain of a political party and become an independent.

(103,856 posts)as a young black woman she's a HOT COMMODITY in republican-world. As a democrat she would just be another of MANY..
If you are young, black and up to republican standards in speaking/dress-code/presentability, and you are willing to suspend your own intellect in public, you CAN achieve success as a candidate/spokesperson/elected official/pundit/book-writer etc.
There have always been "Uncle Toms"..
Every time I see Michael Steele, I am amazed at how he still claims to be a republican...
Once he actually switches, he's just another pundit..

(12,858 posts)IIRC he was in line for a position he would have gotten if he'd been white.
He left congress, claimed it was because he had agreed to the GOP mantra of 'term limits.'
Also IIRC he had some illegitimate kids. He had been highly praised in OK Evangelical circles for saying something along the lines of 'character is what you do when the lights are out'!!!
I believe he had been an OU football player.

(34,661 posts)two cents about Utah knew this lady would be thrown to the wolves. Had she aspired to the Democratic Party Principles and signed on as a Dem. She would have won going away. Remember, she was only the second Female to attain a Federal Office in Utah in modern times. The first resigned in scandal.

(1,474 posts)She was a fantastic Democratic congresswoman who lost after only one term to Enid Greene Waldholtz, to whom I believe you mean to refer above.

(34,661 posts)Enid Greene was a real trip,if you know what I mean. Did not live in the State at the Time, only monitored what was happening because we had a Property ownership thing in Washington County. Learned early on about how the Utah System works and who was and is the key determent of every action in the State.

(54,370 posts)Guess again, Mia. "Republican" means you are useful to them in their quest for money and power, or you are not.
Now she knows what happens if they feel one is not. It's Democrats that have "supporters." Republicans split people who vote for them into two categories: useful and useless. Mia Love just found out which category she fits into, and she doesn't like it. If it's any consolation to her (and I'm sure it's not), people without a lot of money who vote for Republicans are ALL considered "useless" until the next election rolls around, so the soon-to-be-FORMER Congresswoman will have LOTS of company for the eighteen months starting January 2.

(82,849 posts)Are you familiar with Donald Trump and his record of personal and race relations? Do you seriously think he would "chat" with you about anything, particularly if you're going to criticize his words and behavior? But since you've identified the problem that Republicans have with minorities (they don't "take them home" , what is it that makes you a Republican? Contrarianism? The grift is good for a black Republican? The sideshow spectacle of it all?

(18,101 posts)She, like most people, thought Clinton would win in '16. So thinking, she dissed Trump bigly. And, Trump's ego couldn't let that slide.
