He's been campaigning in Iowa non-stop for five years and he just BARELYS defeats a guy like Santorum? Not a very good reflection on him as a candidate.

(72,790 posts)And "just barely" still counts, although I do agree it's a pretty poor showing in a state he's campaigned in for 5 years.

(9,314 posts)Gingrich and Perry. He's left running against Santorum and Ron Paul, neither of whom can catch him over the long haul. I think that is why he is so happy. What will come out now is all of the Santorum weirdness and the Ron Paul seediness which most of the normal voting public will reject.
On the other hand, he is going to get up tomorrow morning knowing Gingrich is going to come after him with the goal of bloodying the political waters -- he is that furious over those ads. Nothing is more ugly to watch than Republicans devouring each other.
Rumor has it that tonight Bachmann will be asked tonight by her inner circle to drop out of the race. If that happens, Romney will have cornered the conservative voters, since Santorum presents no real threat in this race. Not bad for a night's work, and good for the Democrats.
