I've read several times that the final report is imminent but with the Roger Stone, Corsi, Assange situations still unresolved it doesn't seem like it could be very soon. Whenever we hear the report is about to be released some new characters are brought into the story. It seems like the list of potential targets isn't nearly exhausted either. There's always someone new to inveigle before a final report is written.
I suppose it's best if the report isn't released until the new year so that it is handed over to the new Democratic house instead of the current Republican one but it still seems like The Never Ending Story.
Anyone think it will really be done soon after the new year or will it drag on infinitum until sometime after the 2020 election?

(3,344 posts)I believe important indictments will come first.
He's still trying to get cooperating witnesses and some are resisting subpoenas.

(15,751 posts)Mueller almost certainly had a prima facie case a long time ago for the Report. 'The Report' released too early would not have informed or done much. Timing, deliberate or not, is important. Issuing 'The Report' earlier or now would mainly provide grounds for ending the Investigation - I've long been surprised at the number of impatient DU folk who don't seem to quite grasp this.
['The Indictments', especially the 'talking ones' are very important].

Lower your expectations. Don't expect a smoking gun; just a cavalcade of grifting stumblebums playing at espionage.

(12,344 posts)Everything you've read is either speculation from people who don't know or a self-serving leak from someone fearing indictment.

(82,849 posts)As soon as Speaker Ryan bangs his gavel for the last time, Mueller might consider a report but not before.
In any case, though, as long as Whitaker is acting like the Attorney General, I'd be willing to bet that Mueller will be in a holding pattern. According to his mandate as special prosecutor, he's obligated to report any significant developments or expansion of his investigation to the AG. There's probably a gazillion little details that need to be attended to for the work his office has already done. I don't think that catching up stuff is mandatory to report or, if it is, that it will break any new ground that Whitaker doesn't already know. If Whitaker's appointment doesn't last, and DOJ promotes Rosenstein to action AG, Mueller will be happy to forge ahead.
Don't look for a report anytime soon.
