bought things on BF they wouldn't have if they had known they would lose their jobs?
Waited until the numbers were in for Black Friday to show how "good" the economy is

(22,118 posts)especially right before the holidays kick off in full swing. Perhaps their states have robust programs in place to help these displaced workers, as well as the union(s) and GM itself. My heart goes out to these workers and hopefully they'll find employment in this economy quickly and relatively quickly w/ no disruptions to their lives, e.g., have to move (their families too), etc.

(36,745 posts)Demand for passenger vehicles has dropped tremendously. If a company cant make money on a product line, they have no choice but to end its production.
My heart goes out to the workers and salaried at GM, but the management being laid off I have no sympathy for them. They are responsible for the poor decisions that lead to this action.

(20,491 posts)Cause I lost my job two weeks before Christmas
And I talked to Jesus at the sewer
And the Pope said it was none of his God-damned business
While the rain drank champagne
My Estonian Archangel came and got me wasted
Cause the sweetest kiss I ever got is the one I've never tasted
Oh but they'll take their bonus pay to Molly McDonald,
Neon lady , beauty is that which obeys, is bought or borrowed
Cause my heart's become a crooked hotel full of rumours
But it's I who pays the rent for these fingered-face out-of-tuners
And I make 16 solid half hour friendships every evening
Cause your queen of hearts who is half a stone
And likes to laugh alone is always threatening you with leaving
Oh but they play those token games on Willy Thompson
And give a medal to replace the son of Mrs. Annie Johnson
Cause they told me everybody's got to pay their dues
And I explained that I had overpaid them
So overdued I went to the company store and the clerk there said that they had just been invaded
So I set sail in a teardrop and escaped beneath the doorsill
Cause the smell of her perfume echoes in my head still
Cause I see my people trying to drown the sun
In weekends of whiskey sours
Cause how many times can you wake up in this comic book and plant flowers?

(4,436 posts)Then again, I live in Michigan, where many of my neighbors work for the auto companies or their suppliers. I would never buy a non-Union made vehicle.

That's a pretty shitty thing for you to say, when 15000 people just learned they're losing their jobs.

(5,499 posts)I have a ford SUV and a Chevy truck. I've had a GM truck. My parents had a Buick. We had problems with both. From a sedan standpoint, nothing compares with the Camry I had. I gave it to a family member who needed a car. But the Csmry was--and still is at over 200K--a bad ass.

(31,261 posts)Workers have heard strong rumours for at least a couple of months and pretty good numbers for at least two weeks. The announcement just make it widely public.
