Uber: How the fuck do you get them on the phone?

I drive my own car. I've always driven my own car.

But sometimes, I need a ride, so I googled Uber. There was countless information there. They printed everything you wanted to know except what you needed to know.

Turns out there is no customer service number. There's no one to help you join. Everything is in print. There is no person you can talk to help you join, or give you info.

I tried Lyft. Pretty much the same thing.

I'm pissed and have a fuck 'em attitude right now.

Any suggestions on how to reach these "convenient" services?

I've googled both, but they don't have a phone numbers where you can ask questions and then join up.

What are they hiding? Why can't you reach them? Why don't they make convenience a priority?

Told me how to become a driver. Didn't tell me how to sign up, how to get a ride when needed, costs, etc.

Useless.

Really need to talk to a person.

My conclusion is that Uber, Lyft, etc. are bots. At the moment, they seem to be working for many. But what if they are Aliens or Republicans who have figured out a new way to screw up humanity, how we get around, and fuck up everything we take for granted?

Sorry, but I'm really getting frustrated with not being able to talk to a customer service person. So as Charlie Brown would say, "Aaaghu."

Was curious so followed the link. Looks like it's for uber drivers and you have to use the app to call.

From the link:

Open your Uber Driver app

Tap Help

Tap the blue phone icon

Tap Call Support

Looked around and found a number at link below (800) 593-7069

[link:https://therideshareguy.com/top-6-ways-to-contact-uber-when-you-need-help/|]

Personally I've found that getting support through chat interfaces works better. The people seem better but also being able to explain once and letting them have a chance to read and then do whatever search they need gets me help faster. And I hate voice menu systems

A couple of years ago, a driver with both Uber and Lyft stickers cut me off at a corner, made a couple of turns without signaling, dropped off his passenger without pulling over to the curb, and then ran a stop sign without signaling his turn. It was appalling, and would have cost a cab driver quite a bit (my wife is the office manager for a cab company), if not his license.

I wanted to report this guy, and while Lyft had an internet portal to make a complaint, there was no phone number to talk to someone there. I sent an email to Lyft, which gave me a canned "Your concerns are very important to us" response, but nothing after that. But Uber? No, there's no way a common citizen can get in touch with Uber without downloading their app to a smart phone. Try as I might, I couldn't find a phone number, an internet portal, or even an address to write an old-fashioned letter. Uber doesn't want to hear from the rabble, and they don't care about corporate citizenship. Just let them into your urban locale, let them destroy the cab and for-hire businesses, and loot your citizens while paying their drivers a pittance in the brave new world of the gig economy.

It’s a shame that the older people who could really benefit from Uber so often can’t deal with a smart phone app. I did locate a service that you could call and they would get an Uber for you, but I’m afraid I can’t find it at the moment.

I’m 70 years old. Although I have been computer savvy for decades (fluent in Dreamweaver, Photoshop as well as in the general navigation of the internet) I had never gotten a cellphone because I didn’t need one.

Then a year and a half ago, when I was 68 I bought an iPhone and learned how to use it. When I put my condo in California up for sale I moved out of California. I sold it, did all the required signing of paperwork, consultations, contract signing for pre sale interior painting, rug removal and replacement, inspections, floor replacements in the kitchen and bathroom and the staging for the open house visits while I was in New Mexico through my iPhone and my computer. The title company sent the final paperwork to one of their branches close to where I live, so I went there because it was the one aspect that required an in person signing.

It was a crash course in how to use an iPhone but it was invaluable. I can’t even imagine what that sale experience would have been like if I didn’t use the iPhone!

I find that a can do attitude can overcome any old age trepidations. Fuck that ageist stereotype!

when I get updates and have to do something different than the way I did it in the past.

I hate that new technology doesn’t come with an instruction book, just a quick start guide.

But I understand that new technology is the way new technology is. If I want to use it I have to take the time to learn to use it. And I do take the time.

I don’t take advantage of all the things I can do with my phone or my tv remote.

I learn to use what I need to use not much more.

I was born before there was TV. We had the first tv on our block. My dad would let people come in to watch it. We had a living room full of people.

... if you aren't comfortable ordering through the app. They have plenty of people who don't need that level of support.

You aren't who they built the app for.

I'd suggest a taxi or car service.

This means they don't want to hire people to answer phones, they just want their apps to generate endless profits simply by connecting independent contractor drivers to customers automatically.

That said they do have people on phones, but they make it very hard so that people figure it out themselves or drop out rather than costing them anything in terms of labor costs.
