President Donald Trumps longtime lawyer and fixer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty on Thursday to making several false statements in front of Congress. During an early morning appearance at a downtown Manhattan courthouse, Cohen admitted to making intentionally false statements about several matters related to Trumps business dealings. This turn of events suggests that Robert Mueller intentionally leveled a surprise attack against the 45th president of the United States.
Whys that? Its all about the timeline here.
President Trump just last week submitted a series of written answers to several questions posed by the special counsels office. These questions were strictly related to one prong of Muellers wide-ranging inquiry: Russian electoral interference during the 2016 presidential campaign. That is, Trumps answers about alleged obstruction of justice have yet to be receivedand are not expected to be provided in written form for that matter.
Cohens plea more or less comes immediately after Muellers team took the time to review Trumps on the record statementsstatements made under penalty of perjury. And legal experts say thats no coincidence.
CNN legal analyst Ross Garber was one of the first to raise the timing issue via Twitter.
Timing of Cohen plea (right after Trump turned in answers) may be more than coincidental, he wrote. Mueller might not have wanted to tip his hand before answers were provided.

(8,445 posts)It's funny to see him backed into a corner. It's even funnier that he helped Mueller back him into that corner.

(4,463 posts)... of my recollection" I don't believe I ever spoke with Boris or Natasha in person.
But It's hard to say "to the best of my recollection I never tried to have business dealings in Russia" when you undertook a massive campaign to license your name there, and then actively took steps to cover it up. There are some things you just can't deny any recollection about - at least not with any credibility.
Especially with trump's big brain and all. Reagan's " Uhh,.. well, ...I uhh, ...heh heh, well..., I just don't, uhhh ... when I, uhhh... now, what was the question again?" defense won't suit the very stable genius very well.

(980 posts)But the whole GOP is up to their eyeballs in this. The Party leadership knew everything that was going on, and many members of the Party took rubles. The rest of them knew about it and said nothing. Therefore the entire party is guilty. I have been saying this for months now.

(980 posts)has stated that she was not for impeachment, so I would not bet the ranch on that. Nothing says that the current "leaders" could not serve while in jail. Remember when there was a candidate for president who was in jail? No? I guess that you are bit too young to remember that Eugene Debs ran for president and got nearly 900,000 votes. So I guess if someone could run from jail, they could also serve from jail. Not saying that this is right or wrong, just that it is.

(268 posts)The stink of Trump's misdeeds will cling like dogshit to Pence's heels, even if he somehow escapes going to jail with the Orange fucker. Ford paid the price for Nixon's misdeeds, and Pence will do the same, IF he's lucky enough to still be a player by 2020.

(17,202 posts)All Rump ever had to do was say "I WANT" and Michael would trot off to figure out how to Make It So. Cohen seems more comfortable behind the scenes, Rumpy requires the spotlight. Rump had the name and the mystique, Cohen had the brains. A symbiotic relationship, if there ever was one.

(5,995 posts)The whole double agent meme re: Manafort was the GOP congratulating themselves on how the Shitgibbon had played Mueller.
This latest on Cohen is timed to Trump (pun intended) their celebration and ruin the G20 victory lap.
Don't expect to see any open interviews in Argentina and he'll be sitting at the kiddy table if he shows his face at all.

(2,531 posts)so that trumps testimony would line up. However, because manafort and trump's testimony lined up and Mueller knew manafort was lying, trump fell into a perjury trap. Cohen today was just adding insult to injury.
