investigation. One panelist said she couldnt understand why he didnt do so and expressed concern that trump had promised McConnell something down the road.
I think its much simpler than that. McConnell wants the investigation ended because he is implicated too. Russian illegal money is everywhere, perhaps in McConnells pockets too. I wonder if this may be part of the reason so many republicans decided to not run for their seats again.
Paul Ryan had a bright line to power in the House and he too up and quits...just like that. This is collateral damage we are seeing here. The rats are running for cover.
McConnell is hoping that the controversy of trumps firing Mueller, if such occurs, will provide cover for his criminal activity and obscure his culpability in betraying our nation to Putin and Russian organized crime.
Its too late for them though. None will escape justice. They claim they are the party of law and order. Well, they are about to get some law and order, along with humiliation and shame if they are able to feel such emotion.

He doesn't plan to ride the president completely to the bottom. His attitude of "Trump isn't going to fire Mueller." also keeps open the opportunity he can leap to the other side if the CEO starts going under the bus.

(9,287 posts)A good candidate. McConnell is beatable. His poll ratings are horrible.
The battle for the Senate is just as important as POTUS in 2020. The rethugs have many more seats up than us and I bet they do not want McConnell as the public face of their Senate campaigns.

(47,419 posts)the party or candidates who run on a "law and order" platform, often end up being the crooks. I guess when we hear "law and order" from a candidate, we should assume they are hiding something.

And the pro military party is first to neglect the veterans! I am sensing a pattern here...........

(22,035 posts)When President Obama warned Congressional leaders about the intelligence showing Russian meddling in our electoral processes, McConnell wouldn't support making the information public and threaten President Obama by saying Republicans would claim it was election interference by Democrats. The Administration was prevented from going public.
McConnell, Ryan and a whole slew of other GOP leaders know what was going on. They're guilty of treason.

(1,588 posts)Did all this begin with the collapse of the American economy and the Russians laundering their money through tRump and rebuilding his fortunes during the Bush depression? When did the rest of the GOP see the money to be made from betting on Putin and getting in bed with tRump. This seems to have been going on for a long time and all seems to have fallen together quite nicely when you look back on it.

Mitch McConnell was the top recipient of Blavatnik's donations, collecting $2.5 million for his GOP Senate Leadership Fund under the names of two of Blavatnik's holding companies, Access Industries and AI Altep Holdings, according to Federal Election Commission documents and OpenSecrets.org.

(2,850 posts)Looking at his senate career, I think the simplest explanation is that he is hyper-partisan and wants to protect reprobate party interests at all cost, and damn the consequences for our institutions. I don't know whether the root is ideological fervor or naked self interest, but he's never done anything in the senate other than ruthlessly fight to expand power for himself and his party using every dishonorable tactic at his disposal.
I don't think mcconnell needs any personal involvement to feel compelled to protect dump. I think dump could eat live babies on national television and mcconnell would still try to protect him from accountability.
It would be nice to see those two pieces of shit rot in prison together, though.

(37,648 posts)the Repubs kept the House, which was unlikely. And he was just sick of the whole thing. He may have other plans. He can go work anywhere and make a ton of money. Maybe he's planning to run for Governor eventually, which would be a stepping stone to the White House. He has Presidential aspirations, I think.
In the beginning, McConnell and Trump didn't get along. Until they did. I think it's probably bribery. Just like whatever Trump gave Kennedy to resign.
If McConnell was getting significant Russian money, he would've been friendsy with Trump at the beginning. He knew the Russians were interfering with the election, but McConnell refused to endorse him.
