(652 posts)He was the first president I was old enough to vote for. He's stood the test of time and is a man I very much admire. He embodies the word integrity, IMO.

(67,782 posts)...that I ever volunteered to campaign for (limited to handing out flyers) was Jimmy Carter. I really loved that guy, and it was our Bicentennial!

(205,318 posts)And I certainly remember the Bicentennial - and the famous Minutes! I was in a Bicentennial play that year, I played Martha Washington!

(2,275 posts)....to shake Carters hand at an event in NH. I asked him to keep the peace and he looked right in my eyes and said, I will.
Nice dude, that Carter.

(18,497 posts)Reagan and Carer had working hands.
Both Bushes had hands as soft as a baby's behind.
I think that ranch stuff was photo op.
Not that knowing how a hammer or a shovel, (or a bus tray,) works is not necessary, but a taste of exhaustion from a time of knowing manual labor is a good seasoning to a creating a decent human being.

(28,340 posts)when he was in Raleigh one day - but I was dirt poor, with a child to feed and simply couldn't afford a lost day of work.
But President Carter; he still gives me hope that eventually we'll be okay again.

(28,340 posts)For starters, Trump is WAY heavier than that man's body.
OTHER PROBLEMS:
* Jacket is closed, Orangalini almost always wears it open
* Tie is wrong. He does solids and stripes and and that's about it
* Tie knot is neat and appropriate. Orangalini wears his too tight and high
* Hand is adult-sized; fingers extend beyond edge of smartphone.

(205,318 posts)And it looks like quite a keepsake - wondering how many still exist. I'm hoping I still have a couple of really old campaign buttons my Dad just handed me when I was a kid, he saw no reason to keep them so he just gave them to me. One said "Ike" and the other said "Kennedy-Johnson" and there was a photo. I'd love to find them now...

(5,810 posts)That must mean they are in pretty good shape to fly there, attend the funeral service, fly back and then Pres. Carter will participate in a panel discussion in Atlanta. tRump couldnt do that if his life depended on it.
I heaved a big sigh of relieve to hear tRump will just put in an appearance and will keep his thoughts to himself. Hopefully he will have the decency to not Tweet during the service wont he? Oh, wait. All bets are off with that jackass.

(7,575 posts)Carter. Clinton. Obama? Have I forgotten anyone? Very disappointed neither Clinton nor Obama were given the right to speak since they both did so well with McCain's memorial service...especially Clinton since he was so close to the 41st president. What a shame. Think the Bush family dropped the ball in that instance!
Rhiannon12866
(205,318 posts)Not sure where to categorize Trump or if he'll sit with the others. And I agree, all three former presidents knew H.W. Bush, and President Clinton did have the closest relationship with him - not to mention that he's a great speaker, had the privilege of seeing and hearing him in person once. And at the Capitol, Paul Ryan spoke and that made no sense to me, don't think they ever crossed paths.
