Trump is keeping the government shut down over an immigration crisis that doesn't exist

"SNIP....
The president has made clear that any bill to fund the government must adequately fund border security to stop the flow of illegal drugs, criminals, MS-13 gang members, child smugglers and human traffickers into our communities and protect the American people, the White House said, adding: The administration understands this crisis and made a reasonable, common-sense solution to Democrats five days ago we've not received a single response.
But the administration clearly doesnt understand this crisis, because it doesnt exist.
Illegal immigration is at its lowest level in a decade. Young families are arriving at the border in larger numbers while still constituting a sliver of the overall flow of migrants but a wall built at some point in the future wont do anything to fix that. (To its credit, the administration has made small yet positive steps to invest more in Central American governments and economies.)
The vast majority of drugs and other contraband smuggled into the country come through ports of entry, or via tunnels dug under existing walls and fences. Covering more border with a wall or making it 30 feet tall, as the president wants doesnt address either of those smuggling routes.
The reality of the situation which Trump eschews with reckless abandon is that most people living in the U.S. without legal status enter the country with permission, and then dont leave. Not much role for a wall there, either. Do some walk across? Certainly and then often give themselves up to border agents and seek asylum.

And koi.
Some catfish would be nice, too.
Maybe some of those zig-zag bridges like the Japanese have over garden ponds.
Charge those evil brown people a buck a boatload and then you'll see real immigration control!
Yes, sir, make 'em work it off.
It's a good, sound, business solution.
Make Republicans pay for it all. gopermoatgofundme

(6,819 posts)and MSM rarely lays it out as lie after lie after lie. Using Mexicans and Central Americans as scapegoats for his sick propaganda. The Trump Crime Family is on the ropes and he's trying everything he can to keep the focus on Latinos.

(6,137 posts)and the wall is being built. I mean if his supporters beleive in qanon, pizzagate, bitherism, etc. lying about the wall is a piece of cake.

(5,269 posts)Personally and politically he is in great peril as investigations are closing in. His only hope for survival is to keep his strong base of support who fall for his fear mongering over the border. Without his rabid base, he is in danger of Senate Republicans turning on him.
