Note to @realDonaldTrump: ICYMI, Democrats crushed Republicans last month in the midterms and we take control of the House in 5 days. Good luck getting the House to vote for your vanity wall.

Cut your losses now. End the #TrumpShutdown today before you lose even more votes.

This sort of cockiness isn't going to play well.

Democrats should be focusing upon their ideas for MUCH BETTER BORDER SECURITY, using cheaper, and more high-tech alternatives, as opposed to 'technology that was only sometimes effective 1000 years ago'.

They shouldn't be making this about Trump and his vanity, they should be hyping that they offered $1.6B to enhance Border Security in a much more cost-effective way.

They should also be harping that the REAL COST of the so-called Wall is estimated to be about $25B, not $5B, and that's not counting maintenance. $5B barely makes a dent on the project.

They should be talking about how easily thwarted a Wall is ... by TUNNELS, and LADDERS, and ROPES.

They ought to constantly mention the fact that the vast majority of people here 'illegally' actually came here legally and overstayed, NOT by scurrying across our Southern Border. They should be pointing out that large numbers that DO cross the border ... do so by stowing away on Commercial vehicles that are otherwise legally engaging in Commerce.

They should point out that illegal border crossings ... have already been falling for decades, without our having built a monstrous, overpriced WALL.

They should HAMMER the fact that a WALL WILL NOT WORK, and is thus a HUGE waste of money ... BUT that they are VERY willing to fund OTHER, more cost-effective alternatives, options that will move technology forward and perhaps provide new products we could export to other Countries around the world who are looking to enhance their own Border Sec, etc, while also keeping our own Border ... even MORE secure.

and what we got was the leader of the Republican Senate saying his number one priority is making sure president Obama’s a one-term president. Well, our number one priority is making sure president tRump’s a three quarter-term president. That crap got us no where. I saw all those retiring senators saying the Senate was broken and wondering when it happened. It happened when McConnell stated his goal. It happened when Obama's stimulus was muted so he wouldn't get credit for bringing the country back as soon as he did.

taking the high road doesn't work, explaining the how and why is ok but MSM would never report on it, mean and nasty gets reported, that is how our society under a capitalistic plutocracy works.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have said anything other than 'yeah, boy!'

When you bring in all the 'Control of the House' and 'Getting the Votes' talk, you are inherently 'making it sound political'.

That's what I'm getting at.

I'd much prefer "Trump's idea for Wall is RIDICULOUS. We have proposed do X, Y, Z, which will be far more effective, but Trump is too attached to his Wall to even consider our Proposals, which experts have universally agreed, will be far more productive for the US economy, while also improving Security much more than any Wall could ever accomplish", or the like.

The way that Lieu, in this case, framed things ... I was not a fan. I felt it played right into Trump's preferred 'Dems Just Don't Like Me, Or Border Security, and It's All Political' narrative.

Just MHO, fwiw

to 'his wall' is ego and/or politically based.

For Lieu to put out a tweet like this, devoid of the actual defects of the 'Wall Plan', and lacking in alternatives to accomplish 'Border Security', which the large majority of Americans DO WANT ... plays DIRECTLY into Trump's gambit here.

For that reason, I think this is an ill-advised tweet, and not 'the angle we as Democrats want to work'.

I believe we should be working the 'we have better ideas that will ACCOMPLISH MORE, for LE$$' angle.

I believe we should NOT engage in a pissing contest here.

Let's NOT roll around in the swampy muck with this fucking pig.

It's that simple.

by now

Because ...yeah ... fuck THAT!

I'm just talking about what 'wins the argument' at hand in this particular case.

He WANTS this to be 'political', but I think our much better move is to make it sound like 'we just have much better ideas'.

Lieu, in THIS case ... is playing into Trump's 'it's political' angle. That's why I'm not a fan of this particular tweet.

Usually I am, & I love Ted Lieu, & I don't disagree with the 'facts' as he describes them.

Granted, it's fun cause it'll get under the Narcissist-In-Chief's skin, but I don't think it's the best way to work this situation is all

Edit: Also, Nancy's quote was quote was pretty great ... I'd not raise the same objection to that one

Or

This sort of misappropriation of your Tax Dollars will be closely monitored by your Elected Democrats in the House Of Representatives!"

Even Ms. Pelosi, seasoned stateswoman she is, has taken to goading Piddles the Clown. Beaded curtain? I had to change my shirt from my drink coming out my nose reading that. People who otherwise wouldn't dream of talking to a colleague like this, much less the President of the Untied States, are partaking in potshots at Orange Shartfunkle. They mock him while in the same breath show WHY he's an idiot. The playground back-and-forth plays well with idiots, hence Trump, but the important part is some of those idiots can actually be reached because they legit just don't know better. Playground taunts are one thing, but backing them up with reality may catch the attention of those that CAN be reached. That aside, the point of goading someone is to get them to do stuff or say stuff and in il Douche's case, make himself look more like an idiot which has knock-on effects down-ticket and puts pressure on Republicans to do something about him.

Remember, these are seasoned Democratic pols who would otherwise never engage in playground politics that are... engaging in playground politics. They're doing on purpose for purpose and slyly putting the screws to Republicans. When the subject isn't Count Nodicula, they talk policies and ideas.

Me, I do it because it's funny.

Edit: So I just noticed the "Untied States" spelling error...

I am saying though ... let's not give him any blatant/obvious ammunition for 'this is all political' angle ... especially without any real payoff. And I'm not seeing any satisfying payoff in Lieu's tweet.

OTOH, if we're going to 'do the dozens', as it were, and as you seem to be suggesting?

Let me just say I think we need a LITTLE better material than ... 'vanity wall' ... if we're gonna talk shit.

Cause that's a little weak.

I'd be like "No matter the Size of the Wall he Imagines, it cannot possibly Compensate for Trump's Inadequacies as a Politician".

Now THAT ... would be some f***ing 'Playground Politics', my friend

my instincts with this asshole lean more toward the application of verbal 2x4s. Which he’s certainly earned.

I lean toward systematically taking away his toys. His big gold-tone brandings, his twitter feeds, his assets one-by-one. As a mother, this guy’s repeated crappy behavior screams out to me for some firm discipline. He behaves as though nobody’s ever told him “NO.” Or actually taken away his toys when he won’t play nicely with them - OR share.

I see him as little more than an overly coddled, spoiled brat-child, who needs to be taught a few things about proper conduct, deportment, limits, AND consequences for bad behavior.

Not that I’m right about this, mind you, but I’m a mom. As a mom, who’s experienced plenty of over-indulged little girls from affluent parents, and Cub Scouts with parents who don’t believe in rules for their precious little princelings, this is just an observation I’ve developed. You CAN raise kids with love and affection and support of their ability to earn their own sense of self-esteem through legitimate achievement and lots of little victories and good guidance. And positive reinforcement WITHOUT feeding their egos to an extreme (which seems to be the only thing this particular individual seems ever to have received). AND still “sparing the rod”, as it were.
