Trump is an idiot for not wrapping up the Continuing Resolution

and funding the government. He held out, in a completely futile way, for his stupid-ass wall. Before the beginning of 2019, he had both houses of Congress on his side. A naked CR, without the funding for the wall, would have easily been passed by both houses. He squelched that over his dumb-ass wall. As of January 3, 2019, he no longer has a cooperative House of Representatives. The Democratic house will easily pass a simple Continuing Resolution, minus the wall, as would the Republican Senate. If Trump won't sign that, the shutdown is 100% on him.

The Democratic House will NOT give him his wall, but will pass a CR. In fact, they'll do that right away and send it to the Senate, which will almost certainly pass it as well. No wall. Just funding for government operations. That's what the CR bill should be in any case. Trump's in a snit. He may veto such a bill and continue the shutdown, all over his stupid Wall.

He is going to absolutely OWN this shutdown. It is, and will be, on his head. How long will he maintain that shutdown? Who can say? Perhaps until he is impeached and removed by the new Congress. Now, that's something I would enjoy seeing.

they seem to think that its the dems job to give in or they are also guilty of the government shutdown.

Why hold US taxpayers hostage? The republicans promised Mexico would pay for it. Now he wants $5 billion of our tax money to pay for it? Bullshit. He needs to shut up, let America be America, and stick to his stupid promise to make Mexico pay for his stupid wall.

That this all coincided with the Christmas/New Years Day holidays has cut down on coverage. The new congress begins on Thursday. It's going to be an interesting week after that, I think. The following week will be when things actually come together and happen.

Whether or not he signs it, it can become law. However, I don't believe we have that in the Senate or the House, actually.

Plus, I think using history as a guide, that Mitch McConnell won't bring it up for a vote.

Only needs 60 votes. 13 Republicans out of 53 are all we need. Once the attention of the populace is back on national politics and not the holidays, I think the Dems can sway at least 13 Republicans. McConnell can block a vote for only so long before his position becomes more and more untenable.

One or two of them, sure.

But 13?

Well, I'm fairly confident this will end with Donnie caving, or, more accurately, stomping off in a petulant rant while claiming a victory that doesn't exist.

I don't really see republicans joining democrats to outright defy Donnie and mcturtle.

and Ass Face vetoes it, then the Congress can vote to overturn his veto. This will open up the government again and AF will look weak AND stupid.

And ultimately, I think that the evidence will make it nearly impossible for the House to impeach and the Senate to boot him.

They are catering to the same demographic. The only difference is that Fox News can survive very nicely with the deplorables, racists, and the ignorant who like to watch a blond sex bunny tell them what to think (sadly). But that is not a big enough demographic to guarantee an election win. Sure, they also cheat, and use enemies of the US against their competition, but Trump needs more than that this time.

They will be the only bloc capable of upholding Trump’s veto. The real question will be how long until enough break away to join in an override and reopen the government?
