Senator Kamala Harris of California is eyeing Baltimore or Atlanta as a possible base of operations for her likely 2020 presidential bid and is close to bringing on a top aide to run her campaign.
Elizabeth Warren, the Massachusetts senator, has completed a detailed review of her writings and political record to identify potential vulnerabilities, and her aides have been scouting headquarters near Boston.
Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey has been interviewing possible campaign managers, as well as strategists who could run his Iowa caucus effort.
And Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has been reaching out to more women than men for campaign roles, though she is expected to pick a man her current top aide to manage a campaign likely to be based near her upstate New York home.

Renew Deal
(81,859 posts)Opening a door for Hickenlooper, Gillibrand, and Beto. The wild card is then Biden. Does he keep who he already has and win by default?

(15,100 posts)For me, there is something really special about Kamala Harris. Wicked smart and no BS.

five million votes.

(575 posts)There is something about Kamala that draws me. I think she is smart, tough, a real force.
I want to support her but, so many other choices, I don't want to get too involved in one candidate yet.

(2,120 posts)...develops we've got to keep an open mind to alternatives if
the one we love loses traction. Like CS&N said, "love the one you're with".

(12,504 posts)of getting elected after her torching of Al Franken. She would just be a distraction from the contenders and should be made to realize that fact.
Trumpocalypse
(6,143 posts)with over 66% of the vote. Better than any Democratic candidate in New York and better than any other Democratic Senator in the country.
I dont think she is a contender for multiple reasons, but I dont think the average voter is really focused on the Franken thing. Or maybe they realize that she was just one of 38 Senators who called for Franken to resign.
EarnestPutz
(2,120 posts)Damn. I wonder where they will be if Franken stages a comeback.

I also believe that it was Schumer who was behind the whole Franken ousting.

(2,120 posts)...talking about this for a while. I almost feel sorry for any white, male, establishment
candidate who throws his hat in the ring. No matter how qualified, he'll get attacked
as "wrong for the times". I love Kamala Harris, just her laugh should get five million extra votes.
Elizabeth Warren is a hero. I'd hold my nose and vote for Kirsten Gillibrand, especially if she
tries to make some amends for Al Franken. We should not forget that whoever we nominate may
not be running against Trump. He's going to get "primaried" (Flake has all but declared) or the Donald
may be in jail.
leftieNanner
(15,100 posts)Maybe if Gillibrand chooses Al Franken as her running mate! But she doesn't connect for me. That said, I will always vote for the Democratic candidate.
EarnestPutz
(2,120 posts)...on the ticket, but thought that might be a bridge too far
for Ms. Gillibrand. She's stuck with what she did.
You're right, always vote for the Democratic candidate. That Jill Stein/Russian
bullshit is the reason we are in this hell.

Trumpocalypse
(6,143 posts)less than 5 minutes after Gillibrand did and Warren did too the very same morning Why do you love Harris and think Warren is a hero, but have to hold your nose for Gillibrand? Sounds like a double standard.
EarnestPutz
(2,120 posts)...in the destruction of Al Franken. If you are correct
then I admit to an ill advised double standard, political
"band-wagons" notwithstanding.

Out idiot system of elections makes it necessary to declare

(38,958 posts)What we have here is the media (in this case MSNBC) speculating to create hype and to keep eyeballs on the screen. It's more noise to fill the time between ads for drugs we never knew we needed.
EarnestPutz
(2,120 posts)...that mandates a six week campaign season and no television
advertising for candidates? A parliamentary system is a different
animal, of course, but your point that the media drives a lot of this
is no doubt true. My suggestion that we work to correct the flaws
in our system might find a path in making it less profitable for our
corporate media masters.
About the drug advertising. My list of TV drug ads is up to 55 different
drugs in the last nine months.
EarnestPutz
(2,120 posts)Did you mean "I disagree, the system overall does fine"
or did you mean "I disagree (that) the system overall does fine" ??
My point is that our (idiot) system doesn't do fine at all, and for
numerous reasons that we could address.

(38,958 posts)in sorting through the potential group of candidates. Is is perfect, No of course not. Could it be improved, certainly, but we could have worse.
I would prefer a shortened campaign season, mandatory voting by all that are eligible and required televised/streamed debates on a focused group of topics.

Andrew Yang has already announced his candidacy as a Democrat so there is one campaign running and perhaps more.
